Not enough people are talking about the powerhouse in IoT that Renesas Electronics is becoming...many hardware folks never heard of this huge Japanese chip company. Definitely worth tracking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renesas_Electronics

Web Serial on Firefox https://github.com/kuba2k2/firefox-webserial

Someone finally did it - the same strategy could be implemented for WebUSB, Web Bluetooth & WebHID.

Is there a report on the impact of device APIs on the Web? We've been warned of how harmful they could be, yet I'm not able to find many CVEs, exploits or documented social engineering attacks. WebUSB has been enabled for 3B people since 2017.

I'm not suggesting there isn't evidence, I'm not familiar enough with security research to find where it would be. Would love pointers if in fact there's supporting data.

The specifications are developed @w3c and WICG (part of W3C.) I'm not aware of any specific groups looking at web devices API security outside the security experts involved w/ the W3C.

OpenOCD on an ESP32, with GDB over Wi-Fi enabled. What wonders never cease to amaze. https://github.com/espressif/openocd-on-esp32

Uh, I have a little project where I can write again, and it makes me happy. The last production code I wrote was in 2014 for , so this brings back cool memories.

This time it's not for a web app, but for a server. and I found https://github.com/plgd-dev/go-coap which seems to offer a pretty complete implementation with DTLS support. HT to the the people at https://plgd.dev/ for maintaining it!

@coderbyheart it's a great project! We use it extensively and have contributed back to it and the related pion-dtls. Best alternative to Californium IMO ☺️

Embedded devices are cursed.
Windows is cursed.
USB is cursed.

And yet...

@jberi is unafraid! 🙌

Thank you, Jonathan, this guide is amazing!

@jawnsy Ha, the pain is real. Just looking at our users, 36% are on Windows, 14% are on Linux & 12% are on macOS (and much unknown b/c of Cookie Consents.)

I've seen the numbers for embedded devs on Windows as high as 60% in reports!

I can flash a device from a container on Windows. Details coming soon.

Late 2023 I went deep into Containers x Embedded (build, test, CI , IDE, etc.) tl;dr it's not great...so I started this mini side project https://github.com/embeddedcontainers to capture all the best practices I've learned so far.

Feedback and contributors welcome!

@jawnsy lol, Even the most modern cellular modems only have an AT API! But yes, I am old ☺️

TIL about https://cockpit-project.org/ from Red Hat. I've been messing around with a homelab on the weekends and found proxmox much more than I need. Cockpit looks much simpler and more what I'm looking for!

@reconbot running OCI containers is a lot more work than I'd like, though.
