So what is your take on the (1948) UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and (1976) International Convention on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights?...
This post is as edgy as will be allowed in c/humanrights. The goal of this community is to discuss human rights, not politics.
Appropriate comments would follow this sort of pattern:
If people are truly succumbing to a shared psychosis or “popular delusions”, as Charles Mackay describes these phenomenon, then from a human rights based perspective, we need to treat these people with extra attention to respecting their right to hold an opinion, the right to share an opinion, the right to dignity, and their right to privacy, and their right to be free from attacks on their honor or reputation.
That being said, one shouldn’t let fear prevent one from sharing one’s own opinion. Just do one’s best to respect the rights of the other while doing so.
I’ll have to search for it, but I’ve come across an article about a new type of fission reactor under development in China. Supposedly it is intrinsically safe from meltdowns.
IAEA is the international body responsible for standardizations on nuclear energy.
Four years is not a long span of time in the context of nuclear energy, where technological developments take the scale of decades.
This press release pertains to the newly announced western strategy for nuclear, low-carbon energy. That strategy is still current.
By working to ensure that everyone can benefit from nuclear science, the IAEA underpins rights enshrined in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in 1976. These include the right to benefit from scientific progress; the right to an adequate standard of living and the right to the highest-attainable standard of health.
The Agency does this by using nuclear science to combat zoonotic diseases; bolster food safety; protect fruits from pests; strengthen water management; treat cancer; and of course, to help countries mitigate climate change.
