A few of us did leave comments and posts behind telling people where to go, but they quickly got deleted by the mod. Sorry, we tried. Glad you managed to find us!
Hey, you’re the creator of the original r/risa back on Reddit! Yeah, it’s crazy how quickly the burrito truck tanked it…the exodus practically happened overnight! I found out about Ten Forward not 48 hours after Stamets created it, and by then 95% of the posters had already moved away from Risa. I’m sorry they killed your creation, it’s a real shame it had to happen over such stupid reasons.
Ok honestly, this is the first RLM video I’ve ever watched, and I guess I’ve been missing out. I can see the appeal lol, the attention to detail is extraordinary. And they’re funny!
Before I begin- Again, please no medical advice or suggestions. I am going to the Mayo Clinic in March and I will get their advice and I am just going to ignore any medical advice posted, sorry. Please no pity party either, I’m just angry and need a a place to rant and vent, that’s it. Feel free to ignore this post and move...
Hey Squid. I’m sorry I missed this post. I’m glad you are gonna get treatment at Mayo, and I’m also glad to see you’re asserting an “I need support, not advice” boundary. It’s inspiring, as I’m trying to do that for myself right now… because JFC, hearing proposed solutions is exhausting when what you really need is someone to listen and empathize. I’m just now realizing people cannot read my mind, so I guess I gotta be direct.
I wish you the best, man. DM me any time you need to vent, even if it’s just a quick “argh dammit this sucks!” I won’t ever recommend Vitamin F supplements or whatever
There are several communities like kbin.social/m/fediverse/newest that are riddled with prescription drug and direct links to pirated content. It has died down recently and it looks like someone or something* has been pruning them, but there’s still several links that haven’t been scrubbed. I mean, I’m just speculating about who/what is cleaning up, because there’s been no administrative communication about…well, anything lately.
I mean, I love the guy, he has been nothing but kind to the userbase, but he’s spread himself way too thin and the cracks are really starting to show. There’s no oversight, and that is bad. Because some dumbfuck is gonna post something really stupid one of these days, and that instance is gonna get a lot of attention for all the wrong reasons.
This is both the blessing and curse of truly decentralised and people run technology.
Agreed. It’s also a strength, as the Fediverse’s independent operation model allows us to stay somewhat connected even if an instance goes down. I hope everything is all right over there in ernest’s world, he was already burning out before and it looks like it might be happening again.
There was a lot more than that. Last time I checked (a few days ago), there was a ton of spam that was posted over the past three weeks. Some of those 3-week old posts are still there, which is a long time for content to go unmoderated. And people have been applying for community owner and mod positions to help out, they just haven’t been approved yet.
I can tell, outages seem rare and your instance’s latency is pretty low (esp compared with others). Props to your DevOps/infra team, everything appears to be solid and reliable.
I’m curious, how do you not know which instance you signed up on? Do you access Lemmy from a web browser or an app like Voyager or something? From your profile, it looks like you are registered on lemmy.world, like me.
WRT moving accounts: most people just create a brand new account when they find a new instance they really like, but I remember reading that there’s supposed to be a way to export all your user data and import it to another instance…as long as the source and target instances support it, that is. yeah, sorry this is wrong, I think I misremembered, there’s no real way yet to move your posts and comments to another instance.
Thank you, good to be here and nice to meet you! Yeah, everything is solid all around. I know how challenging it can be to maintain, so kudos to you and your team!
Hey @FenrirIII, I looked it up, and there is an upcoming option to move your account in the Lemmy software release version 0.19 :
Users can now export their data (community follows, blocklists, profile settings), and import it again on another instance. This can be used for account migrations and also as a form of backup. The export format is designed to remain unchanged for a long time. You can make regular exports, and if the instance becomes unavailable, register a new account and import the data. This way you can continue using Lemmy seamlessly.
Note that this won’t export posts and comments. Right now lemmy.world is still using version .18.5 of the server software, and according to this announcement the admin team hasn’t upgraded because of stability concerns, which is understandable. But the export feature is coming here, Fyi. Hope this is helpful.
