Anybody today who mocks American football, the one true football, is hereby denied NATO collective security.

kevinrothrock,

@tafadzwa Some positions could technically be played without hands, but none could be played without feet.

kevinrothrock,

@markhughes They've changed quite a bit over the years. Kinda fun to track the technology's evolution.

I plan to watch today's Superbowl through my fingers, turning off the TV when the Niners fall behind & switching to Yahoo Sports updates, with just the audio playing as I get my kids to sleep, back on the TV when my kids won't go to sleep, & skipping the halftime show.

kevinrothrock,

@gzt man, I hope so

kevinrothrock,

@HenningKA_DK very much so

Russia’s descent into madness continues as police arrest a woman at a Moscow airport for posting a video last year where she tickles the Motherland Calls breasts. They delivered her to Volgograd, where she’ll face “rehabilitation of Nazism” charges and maybe 5 years in prison.

The 23-year-old woman had been out of the country. The cops grabbed her on Feb. 8, when she landed at a Moscow airport. A conservative Muslim activist in Bashkortostan named Rusul Akhiyaretdinov has been lobbying Putin and other officials to get her for besmirching WWII vets.

kevinrothrock,

Here she is, apparently already in Vologorad, being lectured about her anti-patriotic offense under the watchful eyes of Putin and Investigative Committee head Alexander Bastrykin.

“American officials […] said it appeared probable that at least some of them were Ukrainian prisoners. […] Russia may have overstated the number of deaths.” POW deaths are “probable,” but 65 is an “overstatement”? I wonder what the evidence is here… https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/08/us/politics/ukraine-russia-patriot-missile.html

kevinrothrock,

The Zaluzhny firing is the headline news, naturally, but that’s been so obviously coming for more than a week that this revelation below is more interesting. It was my impression that Russia’s POW deaths claim about the downed Il-76 carried little weight, given what little evidence Moscow has shared, but now it seems even Washington acknowledges that the transport plane was carrying at least some Ukrainians, though it’s unclear why there’s still skepticism about the exact number.

Tucker Carlson’s interview with Vladimir Putin will be released tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6pm EST, according to Russia Today. https://www.rt.com/russia/592042-tucker-putin-interview-date/

He made the announcement on Instagram, of all places. https://www.instagram.com/p/C3EUlYCunsV/?hl=en

Organizers of adult-themed events say Moscow has banned all “sex parties.” That they’re happening in private between consenting adults doesn’t matter. Those celebs who attended Ivleeva’s Almost Naked party really ruined it for everyone. https://tvrain.tv/news/v-moskve-zapretili-eroticheskie-vecherinki-555385/

kevinrothrock,

Moscow bans private sex parties, one day after Tucker Carlson says he’s interviewed Vladimir Putin. You do the math.

Leave it to EU lawmakers to add stupidity to the Tucker Carlson Putin-interview story. Some Euro lawmakers reportedly want sanctions against Carlson for “platforming” an individual wanted by the ICC. “If Putin has something to say, he needs to say it in front of the ICC.” https://www.newsweek.com/tucker-carlson-sanctions-eu-putin-interview-1867655

kevinrothrock,

@aldo_14 @helgenug If a foreign national faces criminal charges, sanctions seem like a logical state response, but I do not want my government determining who is a “journalist” and who is a “propagandist.” I am very much not fond of the European approach to media regulation.
