I have been running Matrix server (again after several years), and it took 3GB of RAM just for a single user.

I try to optimize it by separating the tasks into several workers and implementing cache localityhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locality_of_reference. Managed to reduced RAM usage down to 1GB while increasing cache size (from 10K to 20K).

I've also deployed the Matrix sliding sync, so any Matrix Client with sliding sync protocol can use the server. Pegelinux.top users can request access to it.

Threads sudah memulai uji coba integrasi dengan ActivityPub yang memungkinkan pengguna Mastodon (dan serupa) dapat mengikuti dan saling berinteraksi dengan pengguna Threads.

Meskipun uji coba ini masih bersifat terbatas akan fitur dan masih memerlukan waktu untuk pengembangan yang lebih lanjut.

@bandarbaru_1 Terpantau sudah ada 3 akun dari threads yang terfederasi ke pegelinux.top. Postingan dari salah satu engineernya mengatakan implementasi fediverse di threds baru 1%.

Belum kebayang kalau ada 100 juta akun threads yang terfederasi, mungkin database server kecil akan meleduk? 😂

Unpopular opinion: If you have a job, you should not use an adblocker. You can actually pay for the premium platforms if you don't want to see ads. Why should the internet be free for you, and why should content creators not get any money if you watch them? I have never used an Adblocker in my life. The free internet is not powered by cotton candy.

@dimillian If this is about YouTube, I paid for premium while still using blocker too. The blocker itself is not just about ads, but blocking malware, tracking, coin miners and other annoyances.

I'm thinking about getting some dedicated hardware to be a home server instead of just using an old laptop (that used to be my distro-experimentation laptop—a role I'd love it to resume). Any suggestions? I'm currently thinking I'll get a refurbished ThinkCenter.

@benjaminhollon Yeah, unfortunately, the marketplace for refurbished mini PCs here is either really old stuff or pretty expensive. It's almost the same as buying new.

Even a second-hand Raspberry Pi is more expensive here than a new one from the official reseller (outside the country) 😅
