If you have 12 hours of idle time, there’s a fantastic video on The Phantom Menace that really added to my appreciation for it. Bread Circus is amazing

Minecraft: Dungeons, easily. I usually play that with a show on or something, it’s mindless fun

Don’t commit near a black hole, apparently

This looks way better than the built-in version, imo. If there isn’t a pull request already, I hope one gets made soon! Not to replace the current version, but maybe a setting like “Set camera preview to picture-on-picture”

Dragon Bump by Desert Planet. It’s been a serious earworm the last couple of weeks for me lol

Awesome! Glad this persistent issue has been addressed!

What's a word you've spent a long time not using right?

Just recently I was in a conversation with a number of UK mainlanders and we had a debate over what “tories” meant, apparently disproportionately ordinarily it refers to a political party and it’s not usual to use it as short for “territories” as I’ve used it (according to how the debate ended, it was half and half...

  • The Bread Circus
    • They go through the Star Wars movies from a book lore perspective, point out flaws in the writing and lore-breaking, and offer suggestions on how the sequels could have been handled differently. They did The Last Jedi, and I really enjoyed it. They also have some cool videos on podracing, ships, and guns.
  • Defunctland
    • History of Disney rides, takes the culture of the time into consideration, the video on queues is a must-watch, imo.
  • Draw Like a Sir
    • Really solid drawing tutorials that aren’t very complicated, takes the time to break down high-level concepts into simple exercises. Overall a really fun channel to watch, even if you’re not into drawing.
  • Fredrik Knudson
    • Long, deep-dive videos into internet history/culture. Rare uploads, but a banger every time.
  • James Lee
    • Newgrounds-era animator with amazing compositing techniques and a very unique animation style where he inserts himself into his videos as a very animated caricature of himself.
  • Lemmino
    • Like the History Channel but without the fluff. Cool topics, very nice animations, high production, high-quality content.
  • MattKC
    • Known for a Lego Island decompilation project. Also does retro console repair from time to time — very fun watch.
  • Paper Will
    • Rare uploads. but interesting video essay topics. High quality and a nice watch during lunch.
  • Pecos Hank
    • A storm chaser who is Reed Timmer’s ying to his yang. Very chill, documentary-quality footage featuring himself playing guitar and talking about the beauty and power of nature. You’ve probably seen his footage on the Weather Channel!
  • Technology Connections
    • Great deep dives into random technology, old and new. The video on the popcorn button on microwaves is really good (I think that may be on his second channel?)

Perhaps I’m ignorant, but obesity is largely a personal problem, no? The core issue is consuming more calories than the body is expensing, so how is that anyone else’s’ problem?

If I had a nickel for every time I saw an interrobang today I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it’s happened twice right?

kryllic,
@kryllic@programming.dev avatar

I’m seeing double here! 4 interrobangs!

Is it a “We hear you and are discussing internally” or a “Yeah, we hear you, so what?” type of vibe?

Beans, Beans, They’re good for your heart, The more you eat, The more you fart, The more you fart, The better you feel, So eat some beans with every meal!

It’s profitable to keep an audience in a state of constant fear so they keep checking to make see if it’s sorted itself out. Then the 2-week news cycle happens, and the old fear is replaced by a new fear.

Climate change isn’t going to end humanity, but it will change our living conditions. And so what? Humans are excellent at adapting to their environment. The ice age didn’t doom humanity.

I feel like the current concerns tend to get way overblown out of proportion. Remember that world-ending solar flare that keeps making the rounds every couple months? Still waiting for that to materialize. Fearmongering is so cringe and yet so many people fall for it.

kryllic,
@kryllic@programming.dev avatar

That’s arguably one of the few things that was fine at launch

That’s fair, all choices merge back into three our four endings iirc, so yeah the meaningful choices part does fall flat on its face.
