Just a guy who loves data, 70s sci fi, 80s old school rap and synth, and tech of the 2050s on up. It's here, just unevenly distributed (Gibson or whomever said it)

I know nothing about The Thirteenth Floor but look at that cover! Whenever I see a VHS with a Y2K aesthetic, I want it.

@atomicpoet big fan of that movie. It's not the Matrix, but it gives a good yeoman's effort....

early web domain name battles; I actually didn't know most of these! https://gizmodo.com/5-domain-name-battles-of-the-early-web-1660616980

@codinghorror There are so, so many others over the years. Nissan is a great one.

https://www.bitlaw.com/internet/domain.html mentions a few others and some POVs on the law around this (at least in the US)

I finally got a webcam that has good lighting in my lil windowless office and works well on Mac! Opal C1: https://opalcamera.com/

Only drawback so far is that it can go in/out of focus when I slouch.

@pamelafox Have you tried the Opal with multiple systems? Works well with Zoom, Webex, Teams, etc.?

Some cameras are more touchy than others for some systems.

Does the Opal require any special software or drivers?

The "no-Windows" portion was disappointing to see, but this looks like a good find...

As an experiment, I've done a brief review/overview of the Toot! app for iPhone/iPad:

Would you want me to do more of these overviews for other Fediverse apps? If so, is this format okay?

I've tried to keep the review brief and readable for people who are scrolling through lots of app overviews at once.

@feditips
With your deep experience, ot's worth sharing more details around why you liked X or Y: better than other apps? Helped you do something faster? Benefits of features are important. I liked the brevity but kind of wished this was just the TLDR; and you'd have more details below.

Agree with Toot!'s odd hiding of the search feature, took me forever to find it.

Maybe I missed the memo, but it seems like Google has completely done away with allowing the display of "cached" versions of pages in search results? I'm guessing this is somehow GDPR related, but I really don't know. Seemed like for a while there some pages still had caches available, but I can't seem to find any results now that do.

@briankrebs It's been moved to the "three dots" menu, but it's present for a lot fewer pages, I'm finding (or my search patterns changed).
