@mpospese ahah I use several App Stores due to availability restrictions of bank/tax/etc apps. so I’m assuming if it’s account-based, it must have to be tied to Apple ID? dunno
hypothetically, if someone with my exact skills and name was laid off a few months ago, what should they consider as a next role? I’m increasingly disillusioned with our industry, so what are some projects/companies/technologies heading in a better direction?
Is anyone aware of a German mobile carrier which fully supports Apple Watch?
(Congstar don’t, and I can’t work out if it’s a technical limitation and they can’t do it at all or if it’s for market segmentation reasons—they only offer support for on-contract customers.)
@ratkins I’m 99% sure Telekom do (or at least, they did). iirc Congstar didn’t get eSIM for ages after Telekom despite the network, so I suspect this is similar market differentiation tactics
@alper what kind of shortcut do you have in mind? afaik the only extra paperwork you would need is passing the Einbürgerungstest, which is an an extremely low barrier
There’s a new season of Just Ace coming! If you have any interest at all in the 90s Australian alternative music scene (… whatever that means), do yourself a favour: https://overcast.fm/+9r1YQnWfY
I think I’ve decided I don’t like take home projects for job interviews, even if they pay you. They don’t respect the interviewees time and there’s no communication.
An on-site usually takes like four hours, and after a combination of whiteboarding/coding/discussion, you’re done.
All of these companies doing take-home projects have like a four or five part process where they expect you to spend five to eight hours on each part.
@collin eh, I generally refuse them outright unless there’s a clear purpose or criteria. if they agree to an hourly rate I’ll consider it, but generally I propose “save us both the hassle, look at GitHub” to sidestep the issue
@collin (or more constructively: if it’s near to the end of the process to see some specific skills in a candidate, that’s much different to a hiring manager asking for a code sample as a first step. sooo much is the latter)
@theconversationau small request: is it possible to schedule these posts (or merge them?) so our timelines don’t get filled with a dozen posts in a row?
I saw some old video earlier than reminded me about NFTs. how quickly they came and went with so little to show for it. are there any “real” (ie non-scam) usages still around, quietly in the background? or was it all grifters after all?
