Heh, I actually wanted to built this when the article first came out, but the problem was that this requires higher water temperatures, which my solar-thermal water heater only reaches very rarely and are impossible to reach with normal hot water heat-pumps.

Ungefähre Nutzerzahlen währen noch ganz interessant dabei.

chaos.social z.B. scheint nur 6000 aktive Nutzer zu haben, und ist dafür meiner Meinung nach viel zu teuer.

Ich glaube es wäre ganz interessant mal einen Vergleich zu machen ab wann es sich lohnt dedizierte Hardware einzusetzen. Ich glaube einige der sehr hohen Kostenangaben für größere Instanzen die man so hört, stammen daher das Cloudservices genutzt werden die im Vergleich zu dedizierter Hardware viel zu teuer sind. Ab einer bestimmten Größe kann man da meist sehr viel sparen.

So pauschal kann man das wie gesagt nicht sagen. Ab einer bestimmten Größe ist Cloud meist viel teurer, selbst wenn man die ganzen von dir genannten Faktoren mit einrechnet, insbesondere wenn man es mit Colocation in einem Datacenter vergleicht.

Nö. Vielleicht von Mailserver angesehen, aber das lässt sich sehr billig outsourcen ohne gleich alles in die Cloud zu schieben.

Edit: ich dachte das bezöge sich auf den anderen Kommentar. Aber mal so im Vergleich: lemmy.world hat monatliche Serverkosten von weniger als 200€ auf dedizierter Hardware und das bei mehr als doppelt so vielen aktiven Nutzern (lässt sich aber nicht 1:1 vergleichen).

Mastodon.social hat fast 300,000 aktive Nutzer. Das ist wiederum eine ganz andere Größenordnung und die haben mit Sicherheit eigene Hardware weil das in der Cloud sonst noch viel teurer wäre. Außerdem würde es mich nicht wundern wenn die auch Usersupport und Moderation mit machen, weil das bei der Größenordnung nicht mehr nur mit Freiwilligen machbar ist.

It is run by one of the core members of the Pine64 design team AFAIK. For all intends and purposes it is the official EU store of Pine64 even though you are right that legally speaking it is a separate entity.

It’s not officially supported, but you can change your display name to include them.

However, a word of caution: since the Hexbear instance enforces this for their users, many people assume that users with it are from Hexbear and/or are Hexbear users using alt-accounts as Hexbear is defederated from many instances (including ours).

Hmm, so I have trouble getting the Dokuwiki AuthPdo integration working. I am pretty sure I got the correct SQL queries already, but there seems to be either something wrong with the documentation or I think more likely a bug in Dokuwiki related to the bcrypt password hashing. I don’t really have time and motivation to go on a lengthy bug hunt in mostly unfamiliar code and the little checking that I did, wasn’t sufficient. I documented my progress so far, but currently I am a bit stuck.

Ah, that is because display-names are by default limited to 20 characters. I just bumped it to 25 characters, so it should work now for your case.
