So my #arch #linux just catastrophically self-destructed. I was using arch with the yubikey full-disk encryption package, when the machine hung and crashed during a system update. The machine crashed exactly after the old initramfs files were cleaned up, and before the new ones were written to disk. Since the yubkikey fde thing stores the seed ("challenge") for the luks key in the initramfs, all copies of the seed are gone now, and the data on that disk is unrecoverable.

@viq @jaseg this is the only practicable workaround. Hardware keys aren't designed to be a replacement for passphrases, just a convienence.

How do people tolerate Windows?

On my Win11 VM I have Firefox set as the default browser. I’ve never actually opened Edge on it, because I downloaded the FF installer using my Mac.

Just clicked on a faulty hyperlink to a document in Excel, and it immediately opened Edge to find an app that might be able to deal with the link.

    More from the company’s general manager who, upon hearing of 18 fire extinguishers that are now considered too old to be serviceable and that need urgent replacement before a fire safety inspection on the 13th, replied with;

    “Ah, let them fail us and shut us down. It’ll be less painful.”

    And yeah, I get that.

    Currently listening to something where they've noted that there's no coherent timeline in the Mad Max movies, that each one essentially stands on its own as just another story where Max is the central character.

    Which has got me wondering; are there other movie series where this is the case?

    I guess there are Batman movies that don't share canon with others, but generally they exist in series with other instalments.
