Does anyone know some good Pokemon ROM hacks that stay vanilla but have quality of life additions and edits? (www.youtube.com)

The video I linked to this post is titled How I Hacked Pokémon Emerald to make Pokémon walk with you. It’s quite interesting if you are into ROM hacking and it’s one of the things that made me think of this....

Gaia is a good one. Unbound. Radical red. Firered rocket edition is a fun one to start with

How do you spend multiple days in the saddle without discomfort?

I’ve wanted to get into bikepacking for years, but I’ve always been concerned about how I’d be able to ride for multiple days. I was on a cycling team in college and the longest ride I’ve done is about 70 miles, after which I was toast and my butt was really sore. Obviously this is different than bike touring, but it...

A good saddle made I world of difference. I have a brooks on my tourer and I cant remember whats on my commuter but its also very comfortable and doesnt cause any pain. I wear padded undershorts for longer tours, but I can comfortably do 2-3 days without them on the brooks.

I try not to ride further than I need to if I can help it while on tour. 50 miles/80km a day seems a good amount to avoid most of the kinds of fatigue or pain you might get from riding. Any further and I start to feel it.

I may have a headstart on training as my commute to work is 10 miles so im doing about 100 miles a week just for work so that probably keeps my butt tour ready.

70 miles as a one off will probably hurt more than 50 miles a day for 7 days.

That looks like a fun bike to ride down rough hills with

I did, but its only £38 to book same day for that one so not a huge loss all things considered. I recommend visiting, france is great to cycle. The coke was my portable ashtray, wasnt taking any more chances on getting fined 😅

@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

Thank you. Im not used to routes being well signposted where I am outside of the city but france seem to do a great job of it. And theres always copies of the local bike routes at the main tourism offices in town. I think I will avoid gps as much as I can get away in the future, it was really nice not to worry about battdry management

I agree I wouldnt really want to be the one pulling it, but credit to her and I hope she makes it. Maybe someone else in the community might pass by her on her journey…

One for u/plactagonic (featuring a bunker) (lemmy.zip)

After Paris I got the train to Calais to ride back to Dieppe. I got to Calais to late to cycle as intended, so I found a campsite, then went for a walk down the beach, and found a pretty cool bunker, where the sand beneath it had been blown away. I don’t know who it is that was sat inside it, they invited me over to sit with...

I saw a lot of repair stations in normandy, france. They have been appearring around london also the last few years

retrolasered,
@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

Im nearly home. Visiting my sister who just moved in to a new house up the hill from the ferry port where I got of the boat. My bike is not going to manage a ride back to london as my rear brake has broken and the routes are all very hilly, so I will be getting a train back after breakfast. Luckily I have a single speed at home to commute to work while I gather the cash for a repair.

I got a €90 fine from police in paris

Was cycling one of those small access roads that straddle the very large main roads. There was a wall between that and the main road. A police van and fire engine were blocking the road, and it was cordoned off with tape. I went on the pavement, very slowly, walking pace. But the municipal police stopped me and asked for my...

This is true, but london police follow a culture of educate first before punishment. They give a friendly reminder to dismount first. And when the road is blocked for 20 feet it is easy to not even think to dismount.

retrolasered,
@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

I normally just try to stick to roads and cycle paths regardless. It was an error of judgement and I guess ive learnt the expensive way.

Yeah paris was a mess. I couldnt get near the eiffel tower with all the closures, and im surprised police werent posted there collecting fines as it is carnage trying to figure out where you are and arent allowed. But I will stop past a few more landmarks on the way to gare du nord to get the train to calais tomorrow.

We took avenue verte into paris, we are camped 11 miles from notre dame but it was 30 miles on the official route. Very nice, we saw a lot of paris that you wouldnt see visiting the city centre.

I hope they throw away the ticket. I suppose I will have to pay to avoid issues later :(

retrolasered,
@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

Yeah bad luck I guess. My route companion got away with a warning from the guys colleague even though neither of us speak french. I would have much preferred an insult than a fine

retrolasered,
@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

Youd think that but I was just as polite, cooperative and civil as my companion. He just got a nicer cop than me.

retrolasered,
@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

Yes I generally know to dismount, but being in a new busy city trying to navigate and things at the end of a 7 hour day riding these things are easily overlooked in a moment where you make split decision without really thinking about it

@retrolasered@lemmy.zip avatar

Thats great to hear. I have struck lucky with the weather again. Camping just outside paris at maisson lafitte, today was supposed to be storms but instead it is hot with blue sky and not a single cloud. I made a travel companion just outside dieppe and we have cycled together, we were allowed to share my pitch here which has saved me €45 for the weekend. I have decided not to cycle back to dieppe, instead I will get the train to calais on monday and ride the euro velo 4 route to dieppe and keep exploring new spaces.
