Hey mastodon! I have a wooden planter box that I filled with compost last year and then totally neglected. All the other patches of the garden got weeds but nothing grew in that :/ does that mean the soil is dodgy and I shouldn’t try to plant stuff in it?

Niece & nephew telling me about an amazing card game their friend’s dad invented for the kids, and it’s essentially snap but you say you’ve ‘bonked’ the other player. Cue “I’ve reverse bonked Ben”, “I triple bonked” etc. CJ’s Dad somewhere feeling very pleased with himself I suspect.

I think I get the problems with the Barbie film. I saw a take that it’s not about patriarchy, it’s about white feminism and that seems true. But my 12 year old niece saw it and liked it, and I’m grateful it exists when I have to endure the other stuff she watches. Everything is girls worrying about their hair and wanting to be good enough for a boy to like them. I do wonder how much of the ‘message’ is absorbed, but it’s something.

At a “park” where the rides are entirely made of bolted metal sheets, wooden planks, rope and bribes to health and safety. It’s staffed entirely by 18 year old boys with mullets and one furious middle aged woman with a walkie talkie. It smells like a farm. The kids love it.
