Dusting off my workflow for . I wrote lots of things in a mad scramble last year, so I'm rediscovering things I've forgotten and I'm trying to add more notes along the way. :)

@daviwil there are 42 talks up there now, yay (27 general, 15 development). =) There are three more talks that are penciled in. We'll save time for them in the schedule and we'll add their pages when the plans are firmer.

Edutech: it is 2023, saying "there is no alternative" is no longer an excuse.

Two resources for virtual conference hosting:

Sacha Chua's excellent coverage of processes used to host EmacsConf:
https://sachachua.com/blog/category/emacsconf/
@sachac can you make a special tag for those posts?

Máirín's run an open source-powered virtual conference:

@Greta Thanks! The emacsconf category on the blog should link to all the things. Oh, did you mean include in toots? I could try adding that to the title...

Just discover the HTML tag "<details>".

It let you write a content which will be hidden by the browser into a widget. You can expand the widget by clicking on it, revealing the content.

Very useful if you write a question and want to provide the answer.

@fox I have some code that lets me add :summary to my #begin_src ... blocks so that they're collapsed: https://sachachua.com/blog/2023/01/adding-a-custom-header-argument-to-org-mode-source-blocks-and-using-that-argument-during-export/

Once again, I am trying to interest people in starting a monthly±n news letter for ELPA and core Emacs development news.

The basic intention is to bring more people into the loop wrt what is going on with Emacs itself, and hopefully incentivize more people to participate. This will probably include:

  • Announcing new packages and major package updates,
  • User reviews for new packages on GNU and NonGNU ELPA,
  • Review of new features in Emacs,
  • A bulletin-board for help and testing requests, in case anyone is tracking the master branch.

This is not fixed and I am open to further ideas.

There is currently a thread on the topic on emacs-devel: https://mail.gnu.org/archive/html/emacs-devel/2023-09/msg00076.html

I have written about the idea previously https://amodernist.com/texts/elpa-zine.html, and created a mailing list on Sourcehut for some discussions https://lists.sr.ht/~pkal/elpa-zine/%3C87lejn21m2.fsf%40posteo.net%3E.

@PuercoPop @pkal @katco I'd be delighted to link to the Emacs ELPA zine when available, and @pkal can post it directly to emacs-tangents when ready. If there's an RSS feed, we can include it in Planet Emacslife too.

Browsing through https://github.com/ml729/calfw-blocks/blob/master/calfw-blocks.el , I get the feeling that the loop macro can do way more than I've used it for. =) I'd like to get the hang of it!

sachac,
@sachac@emacs.ch avatar

@x0r I really should get into the habit of looking for cl-loop opportunities so that I can practice using it. :) So much you can do with it!

sachac,
@sachac@emacs.ch avatar

@llewelly cl-loop is the preferred name for it, yes. :)

sachac,
@sachac@emacs.ch avatar

@x0r I'm sure I have a bunch of nested mapcar and mapconcat calls in my config that are just waiting to be cl-loopified. Thanks for sharing that gotcha!

ross, to emacs
@ross@rossabaker.com avatar

I've added a custom :code-license header to Org mode source blocks [1], heritable across subtrees. This lets me share trivial config under CC0, while declaring and complying with stronger licenses elsewhere. Technique based on @sachac's custom :summary header [2].

Thinking about transitioning to Big Blue Button for a larger (25-30 person) meeting but I haven't been part of meeting that large on that service, so I'm wondering if folks here have any experience or advice?

sachac,
@sachac@emacs.ch avatar

@ieure @baconandcoconut It's reasonably okay if most people keep their webcams off and remember to stay muted.
