I've been using Linux since it was first practically available (early 90's), UNIX before that, a variety of other OSs including UNIX derived NeXTSTEP, and I can genuinely say that Windows has many advantages and continues to do so.

Whilst part of the advantage comes from being the primary OS (for games, 96.76% market share on Steam), some comes from its feature set.

Most programs which work continue to do so (I have a 25 year old game I made, for which the installer and game still work).

@dougbinks This is something I constantly remind myself (and others) of. The backwards compatibility of Windows is astounding and every year that passes it becomes more laudable. Android, macOS, iOS, Linux, etc. constantly and deliberately make not-so-old programs not run anymore. Not Windows, it's amazing. It respects and serves both developers and users.

I was just looking at zstd project and was surprised at how many files there now are, and how complex building it looks to be.

@dougbinks I recently ported fzstd.ts to C and was surprised how simple it can be (way under 1k LOC).
But sadly all the complexity of real zstd seems what makes it fast. So far my optimizations couldn't get near its speed with just platform independent C code. I can't even beat miniz based deflate so far 😅

Oy vey! 4.1 is out. By some accident, everything mentioned under Video Sequencer section is my fault. https://www.blender.org/download/releases/4-1/#vse

@aras I make trailers for my open source projects using blender and I use a lot of the features you improved so thank you very much for your work!!
I was amazed to learn how solid VSE was already a few years ago and this update makes it even more amazing. I'm sure it will only get more and more popular.

Swapping from GitHub to GitLab seems like a Band-Aid on the problem. Eventually GitLab will be tempted by the AI money and just start consuming everyone's data.

But the alternative, hosting a Git instance and doing the CI/CD is way, way too much time and effort. I have a day job and a kid. I have maybe an hour or two a week to do this stuff.

@_benui codeberg.org looks quite good to me (though I wish it had SVN). The problem with not being on github does seem the missing out on potential collaborators and the possibility to contribute to many great projects. Such a bummer, for a long time GitHub didn't seem that bad...

I've enabled three settings called "Two Finger Scroll" on Linux so far, none have enabled two finger scrolling on this laptops touchpad...
