i have lost count of how many times a week i wish i had brought my copy of "joy of cooking" with me to japan 😢 i never bought a new copy because there aren't cheap ones at used book stores to be had—with someone's handwritten comments / notes in the margins!—and i do NOT want a digital copy 😔

@dandelionwine oh same! that's why i want an older copy, but i may have to resort to just buying a new one 😕 also: i love the moosewood cookbook! i haven't thought of that one in a long time!

sadly, i sold my EXTENSIVE cookbook collection before moving to japan…i have bought one here and there over the last 10 or 12 years, but i dont have a lot of space, so if i don't know how to just make something, i usually google it 😢

but i miss knowing exactly which recipe i wanted from which book!

i found a recipe for quick hummus and—while it was plainer than my usual stuff—it was fast enough for me to make w/out sitting down, it used fewer dishes than average, and eating hummus is better than no hummus so…

@redhero so easy! i used an immersion blender for the first time, so there were no food processor parts to clean! just the end of the immersion blender & the cup i made it in!! ✨

i'm sofa king™ sick of eating the same hospital food over and over and over again, but i'm also glad that they've made me yōshoku ＊alllmost＊ every day, so i'm not going to complain (too much 😅)

also: can i not start a "sandwich war" by simply stating that i would be pleased as punch if japanese cooks, once and for all, stopped using KETCHUP in recipes that clearly call for tomato paste…i've eaten more SWEET minestrone than one person can handle in a lifetime! 😝

on the other hand, i bought some heavily discounted strawberries, so the whole taxi smelled like that euphoric (imo) scent of perfectly-ripe / might-rot-in-a-day strawberries 🤤🍓🍓🍓🥰

tsuyu should be the dust jacket of one of those "the japanese art of nani~nani" nonsense…but about learning to live with unpredictability and being told you're wrong in the face of the obvious. 😅

@jezebelkat @sfpodge @scoutie @jackonskates i bought a washer / dryer on recommendation from some fine folks here, and have never looked back…it was crazy expensive, not gonna lie, but it's so eco that my power bill barely changed, and the amount of time i save hanging and pulling down laundry (& also trekking to the laundromat) is truly MASSIVE 👍🏼

my laundry pole is now for hanging plants in my garden, and some cute flags & fairy lights ✨ 😅

on this first day of spring, i was really hoping to have my garden back, and to transition from blowing all my money on useless shit to blowing all of my money on plants!

they've clearly waterproofed the balcony, but everything remains pushed up against one side, and i don't know if i'm allowed to put it back in place…🤔

i have to admit, though, it's in a terrible state…the builders shoved everything against the railing, and i can't even see most of my plants. they piled small stuff INTO larger pots, and even stacked. plants atop one another!

and about one third of my garden tiles are still on their scaffolding out of reach! ⊂((・x・))⊃
