Realistically every instance can monetize in whatever way they see fit but I highly doubt this’ll be a thing. Mastodon is way bigger and more expensive than Lemmy and it runs just fine through donations. No reason why the same won’t work here.

Lemmy itself is also likely to follow in Mastodon’s path by getting money from sponsorships and fundraisers. See investopedia.com/how-mastodon-makes-money-7482865

Honestly it seems fine to me. The gains are small enough that it probably won’t be worth doing on most ice maps because unlike in the vid, most ice maps aren’t a straight line. Ice wiggles aren’t usable on turns.

The UI is a lot smoother. Feels good man.

Edit: servers are very sluggish though. Hopefully this gets fixed without needing to roll back.

Server feels a lot better now than it did an hour ago. Comments are going through quickly and upvotes are working for me.
