Tried again last night to see any aurora... Nothing. Not with naked eye, not with phone.
Light pollution sucks...
Friends only 5mi away all have amazing photos of it too!
Just put the children to bed, who have been up late watching eurovision, and we have been told we're not allowed to watch it without them, as it would not be fair 😂
Belfast SSE arena now has amazon powered automatic magic till, where you pay a contactless £10 holding fee on the way in, take your drinks and walk out.
Only problem is it charged me a total of £40 for two drinks, instead of £13.80
Honestly not sure how to correct this as I've no receipts and not sure they do either. Have challenged the charge via my bank, will see how that goes. Otherwise it's small claims court I guess.
I wonder how often it makes mistakes, and how many people notice
@sldrant my immediate reaction is that sounds infinitely scammable. people reaching past you, tagging behind you. the fact that your was so high is really alarming. can you get a receipt from amazon for the charge?
@shezza_t it takes me about 30 or 40m to cut the front, same for the back. If this helps out on the front then it's worthwhile. Now just need the chickens to pull their weight and scratch out all the moss at the front!
@Dragon@neil was it fiddly to fit? Trying to work out if it is worth the effort, I mostly use it to turn on the heating on my drive (wish I could force a 100% charge remotely as that is a real pain, though don't have to do it often)
@neil ironically my Nissan Connect app says it was discontinued for my car on 1sr April and is useless, but my car can still find charging stations via the Internet so the sim is still active (and someone is paying for it, not me)
Just got an email from Nissan saying that my car remote control features are disabled from 1st April due to the UK 2G shutdown. Rather disappointed there's no option to switch to another provider who might offer this until 2033 as the govt deadline as only Vodaphone and Three are switching off 2g this year. Wonder what some clever hardware geeks will figure out as a workaround.
cc @neil
Dog back from surgery last night and seems to be happier now. She finally found a sock to eat which was too big to pass. 4 figure vet bill is tough to swallow too.
@Edent@alex yes I do wonder how a "lost hardware token" is processed. I'd expect maybe bigbsites like Google and Apple to have some complex recovery process, but smaller sites presumably won't, and relying on an email reset kind of defeats the point of the token
My work has started deploying spyware that decrypt all our network traffic. I detest the idea of breaking encryption in the name of security.
Also they clearly didn't test it with any developers (our company is a software dev company) as it stops me doing my job so I've been told to turn of this awful tool for now.
@sldrant@Dragon at a previous employer I ended up building a Pi Zero W bridge device that showed up as a USB-ethernet device I could use as a bastion device on the guest network to ssh/git with github because the "production" network didn't allow it. It was easier to break the rules than follow them.
(and lets not talk about me re-writing the python tool that used to check password expiry for certain accounts to just lie...)
@ben@Dragon oh yes, writing security check tools in python or perl so the whole development org could read how they worked was very amusing... It turns out many of us were better developers and sysadmins than whoever wrote the check tools...
