i had no idea too. but I don’t really go out of my way looking for DJs or Shaq news too, so…

codebam, to main

@main I can’t find my lemmy account from on mastodon. is federation turned off?

it should be fixed now with the update to v0.18.1

Cannot subscribe to communities since the v18 update (lemmy.ca)

Since the update to Version 18, I have been unable to subscribe to any communities (local and federated), with the subscribe button simply not appearing. I am using Firefox 114.0.2 with uBlock Origin running. Anyone know what I might do to fix this issue? Thanks!!!...

from a different comment i made earlier today:

looks like they’re aware of the issue, and there’s a workaround:

The way to resolve is to click on any link on that community and the Subscribe/Block buttons show up again.

saw this many years ago, maybe the first time they came to Winnipeg? It was very funny. Highly recommended!

you have to share!

I’ll also take some red ember pizza, and maybe a weinerpeg dog while you’re at it. thanks! 🤣

Connect 1.0.38 released

Hi, This update happened faster than I was planning since a lot of these features came together quickly. Large features added yesterday are 2FA support, a markdown editor, and swipe actions on posts and comments. I also reworked some of the API functions so I can immediately update the state with what I think it will be instead...

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

was able to login with 2fa! looks great so far!

@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

hmmm, that’s a good question. seems to be stuff isn’t federating properly. i’ll do some investigation into it.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

yes, we are still federated with lemmy.world.

i haven’t seen anything in the logs, but I haven’t dug too deep yet. i’m going to guess it’s likely an issue with .world themselves. there seems to be a few users reporting issues, i’m guessing because of their high activity/user count:

lemmy.world/post/646742
lemmy.world/post/574368
lemmy.world/post/406956

it could be a general lemmy federation issue too?

i think there might be a few reasons why this is happening.

from what I understand, all federation requests are stored in a queue, and if the server happens to restart with a bunch of stuff in the queue, then those federated comments/posts/whatever are basically lost. pretty sure they’re working on saving the queue so that that doesn’t happen anymore.

there’s also another issue, linked from that issue i posted above, that has to do with HTTP signature expiration times. i’m just guessing what that means, maybe if it takes more than 10 seconds to federate then the content is rejected?

so it looks like they are actively working on some of these issues.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

no. sorry i wasn’t clear in the post above. i meant instances with > 10,000 users from the list that @sunaurus is maintaining here:

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/…/pubhtml

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

exactly this. i didn’t word it properly above, and have edited it for more clarity.

thanks!

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

no, their user count is < 10,000, so they were not blocked.

It probably depends the league and coaching. I mean they are still learning, and our team had a number of first timers, so our coaches was more focused on learning and having fun rather than winning.

the playoffs were a little more competitive, where we tried to play our best players at their best positions, but still tried to give everyone involved.

some other teams were much more competitive, once bringing a young ump to tears because they didn’t like their calls, etc. I’m sure it will only get worse the older they get. sighs

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

oof. that sucks.

I know the team/parents that did that got a talking to, and I’m not sure what would have happened if it continued, but at least there’s some measures to curb it a little bit.

they have a hard enough time finding umps it would suck if they couldn’t play because no one wanted to do that.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

it’s easy. it also looks like it’s being worked on!

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

not 100% sure what you mean? i think there was an issue where they didn’t show up properly, but a hard refresh usually fixed it.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

looks like they’re aware of the issue, and there’s a workaround:

The way to resolve is to click on any link on that community and the Subscribe/Block buttons show up again.

it does look like there’s some search issues, and it looks like there’s a few issues there as well. hopefully they get them fixed in the next version.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

100% agreed. I mean it’s better than nothing but way too easy to lock yourself out of your account. also no recovery codes, so not sure what happens if you no longer have access to your authenticator.

pretty sure they are addressing some of it in a future version.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

yeah, it’s a lemmy thing, and yeah, i agree, it’s pretty weird. hopefully they fix it at some point.

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

thanks! the new admins are currently working on that, should have more information soon!

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

@TruckBC @Shadow i’m guessing this is because it’s now using cloudflare?

smorks,
@smorks@lemmy.ca avatar

it depends on if you’re just using a browser or an app?

if you’re in a browser, there should be a “Create Community” button, right at the top, or by pressing the menu button if you’re on mobile.
