Interest check for a Nirvana in Fire watch/rewatch party!
(I'll be doing it anyway but I just wanna know what schedule works for you if you wanna participate. I'm thinking ... First week of March?)
I've been doing two eps a week for MLCWatchParty and it's been working well for everyone I think (I am late I know but that's a me problem) but i wanna know if ppl prefer a different schedule.

so hard though sometimes to decide what counts as a rarepair. ships that nobody has thought about before except this one weird fic, ships that most people vaguely agree are reasonable but rarely ever write about, ships that have a tiny but dedicated fanclub, ships that get written about with some regularity but can't ever hope to reach the levels of the major ships in the fandom, etc. where on the continuum is something no longer a rare ship?
and the place to put that line changes depending on the size of the fandom too, I feel, making it even harder to be consistent throughout all my bookmarks for many fandoms!
@lirazel well, I wouldn't consider the main ship of even the tiniest yuletide-sized fandoms a rarepair, personally! like, say, Uriel/Little Ash is an obvious major ship from When the Angels Left the Old Country, so it still isn't a rarepair even though there are only 10 works for it on ao3, and I'm confident some of the ships I've tagged rarepair for cql have more fics than that!
@lirazel ah, different definitions of rarepair! I guess for me when I'm craving rarepairs, I'm looking for something that feels non-obvious, rather than something that doesn't have much written about it!
@lirazel@geraineon I would say that for me it's not quite this! it's like an intersection between canon and fandom. If the ship is canon and gets a fair amount of attention in canon then it's not a rarepair no matter how little fic there is. but if it's a minor background couple that appears in one scene in canon and never again, then it could still be a rarepair if fandom doesn't do much with them. and simultaneously a ship that isn't canon could be NOT a rarepair if it's one the fandom spends a lot of energy on, comparative to the size of the fandom
so EITHER canon OR fandom giving the ship a fair amount of focus would, I think, remove a ship from counting as a rarepair in my eyes
but also, even if a ship isn't canon and there's all of 3 fics for the ship, if those 3 fics are the majority of the extant fics on the internet for that canon, it's still not a rarepair to me. because it's getting the majority of the fandom's attention, such that there is!
OH BOY canada only fully banned lead paint for households in 2005?!???
lead content was limited to 0.5% by weight in 1976, and canadian manufacturers stopped adding lead at all by 1991 for in-country sale. but. horrifying. even those dates are far too late tbh.
the league of nations began efforts to try to ban lead paint worldwide in 1921!! and the hazards of it were already well known for centuries at that time!!!!
I knew that lead paint usage continued far into the 20th century but I didn't realize that this was DESPITE wide-spread knowledge of the issues with it
but. sigh. lead is extremely cheap, and makes paint look nice and work well. so of course.
oh god, the defining canadian trait of comparing ourselves to the USA and saying "we're better than them" strikes again, this time about lead. discourse and action over lead toxicity in canada has been affected for many decades by saying that it's a problem in the USA but not in canada......because there was lots of data about USA blood levels, and almost no data for Canada. so we mostly just shrugged our shoulders and went "eh it's probably not a big deal" and didn't go on to mandate higher testing. also infighting between different canadian federal agencies left lead by the wayside. no, I got into cmedia fandoms by reading cql fanfic, which inspired me to watch cql, which inspired me to get into other cmedia - nif and the mxtx novels! I first watched nif just a couple years ago!
