Have a look at my new blog post if you need to explain (for example, a reviewer 🙄) the difference of and the interplay between exploratory research and confirmatory research and need some text or magic for that.

@michaeldorner Interesting to see that criticism. Many @seresearchers do not seem to understand the basics of empirical research. This also explains why I almost exclusively see exploratory studies in reviews.

Martin Rinard calls for software engineering research on LLMs beyond code: „Much research to date has focused on using LLMs to work with code
But software engineering is about much more than code
What are system goals?
How should those goals be realized?“

Peggy and Abhik talk about the process with two cycles and revisions. While I appreciate trying to improve the reviewing, it still feels like an incomplete imitation of journal reviews. I vote for following other fields in CS and move fully to journal-first presentations.

The ICSE main conference had just started. It contains many co-located events, which is somewhat exhausting but I value the reduction in the need to travel (and thereby reduced plane trips). @icseconf @seresearchers

From the perils of :

Reviewer Expertise (self-assessment): No familiarity
Reviewer Comments: *has a strong opinion on how our research should be framed and designed and why it is not novel and obsolete.
Reviewer verdict: Reject.

Does this type of god complex come with the PhD or is it a separate curriculum?

The @ACM Computer Science in Cars Symposium kicks off with a great keynote by Martin Arend by on how security management in cars changed and where we are today.

😆 I love how @johanrooryck and colleagues both confirm the legacy publishers' worst fears and, at the same time, very accurately, describe a thriving market that is the alternative:

"Commercial providers can be contracted to deliver services such as submission systems, copyediting and typesetting. Contracts with service providers should provide cost transparency, be competitive, time-limited, and free of lock-in mechanisms or non-disclosure agreements."

@brembs @johanrooryck yes, this sounds like a great future. I wonder how we will move my software engineering community towards that future. @seresearchers

Erasmus+ alumni: this is for you! 👇

Erasmus+ was created in 1987, providing learning mobility opportunities to just 3000 university students in 11 European countries.

We now celebrate 36 years of life-changing experiences for around 13 million young learners!

And we're not done: we plan to expand to 60 European universities with more than 500 universities by mid-2024, with an Erasmus+ indicative budget totalling €1.1 billion for 2021-2027.
