It might be interesting to know for anyone reading this - kbin.social (Kbin) allows individual users to block instances, unlike on Lemmy where users can only block communities and only admins have the power to defederate with instances.
For example, from my kbin profile, I could go to kbin.social/d/lemmy.world (do for "domain") and then block lemmy.world entirely, like the admins of beehaw here have done.
So if you think these decisions ought to be left up to the individual user, kbin might be a better fit for you than Lemmy in its current state.
Alright, I'mma head out. As a trans woman who really appreciates safe spaces online, even I think this is some heavy-handed, kids gloves stuff here. I know you don't care what I think, as your response to @Wolfric82 has shown - and that's the other reason I'm leaving.
Do you think that Reddit management are monitoring the number of people coming over to alternatives? And watching or even possibly participating in conversations here on Lemmy?...
we accidentally did the upgrade just now, which is what you just experienced. anyways we're at like double the power and processing, and three times the storage we were previously at so yeah hopefully that'll be good. anyways i guess i'll leave this post stickied until i go to sleep in like an hour
I just went and put some laundry in and I guess it happened then. I remember a time when it would take that long, or longer just to load a single image on a webpage :P
I see other commenters who, before they left reddit, replaced all their comments with an explanation of why they’re leaving. What’s an easy way to do this?
Have you considered using Redshift manually? Here's what I do:
First, uninstall redshift-gtk and just install redshift.
Next, according to redshift -h
The neutral temperature is 6500K. Using this value will not change the color
temperature of the display. Setting the color temperature to a value higher
than this results in more blue light, and setting a lower value will result in
more red light.
Default values:
Daytime temperature: 6500K
Night temperature: 4500K
So, create two scripts, for example "Redshift-On.sh" and "Redshift-Off.sh". In the former copy and paste:
#!/bin/sh
redshift -P -O 4500K
and in the latter copy and paste:
#!/bin/sh
redshift -P -O 6500K
In my case, I create custom menu items (Mint's menu editor) and link them to those scripts so I can run them from the main application menu/ add them to my dock.
we have a nice thing going here, and i'm glad that about 5,500 of you are here to share it with us. it's a new day tomorrow and i hope you'll be here for that too...
When going through the post feed, I'll randomly get 5-10 new posts added to the top of the feed. These 5-10 posts are all new with 1 or 2 upvotes only. Sometimes all from the same community....
It's a known bug. If you're using Firefox on desktop like I am, going to about:config and setting "accessibility.blockautorefresh" to "true" seems to be a workaround.
I just got into Swans. Their albums "To be kind" or "Glowing man" are great, and it reminded me of "20 Jazz Junk Greats" by Throbbing Gristle. I wonder how many great experimental albums are there?
The oldest game I still really enjoy is probably The Secret of Monkey Island for DOS (1990). I like classic NES games too but I don't really play them anymore....
ANNOUNCEMENT: defederating effective immediately from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works
hey folks, we'll be quick and to the point with this one:...

night owls of asklemmy, what is the scariest thing you've seen?
I wish I had anything to contribute to this topic but I'm sure there's no shortage of experiences out there.

Experimental albums worth listening

What niche reddit community do you want to see find a place on the fediverse?
Personally i'm looking forward to seeing twobestfriendsplay, arkhamasylum, whowouldwin, and respectthreads, on here.
