I've seen a few people mention fighting games on here (e.g. Street Fighter). I'd be interested in that. The number of gameplay clips people would be sharing make me think it ought to be its own instance, though.

Some communities have been created for those, but don't seem to have gained much popularity.
The main kbin.social server has been struggling with all the new traffic, so I created !fightinggames. I figure it might be a good idea for the FGC to have its own server for uploading clips and replays, so we don't take up a bunch of space on the main kbin server.
I'm trying to get it on lemmy.ml and doing the same kind of link as you and I'm also getting a 404. It doesn't seem to be updating like yours is, but I will check back I guess. Did you do anything different while waiting for it to work?
That's worked for me before on something else on a different lemmy instance, but it doesn't seem to be working for me this time. I wonder if it's because it's kbin? Not sure.
A lot of these aren't exactly "niche", but afaik none of them exist on lemmy yet
Edit: for some reason, a bunch of these that actually do exist weren't showing up in search unless I specifically searched for "!community". I've gone back through and added links to them here.
Unfortunately the people behind r/visualnovels seem to not have even noticed the most recent reddit drama as of yet....hopefully they migrate over soon.
It's the 3 stacked lines icon on the bottom bar, beside the Home icon. It seems like that if you input part of the community name, it'll find it, but it doesn't seems to find communities by topic or anything like that.

Yeah, it searches only by community name, not by topic, but hey, reddit works the same way (almost) and I didn't really mind that.
What bugs me is the URL handling, it keeps redirecting me to a browser, then I have to copy the instance-community link and copy it back here for the search 😒.

The search redirects me within the app, but links for communities in comments seem to open in the browser. Seems that that are still some bugs here and there in the app.

r/HobbyDrama or a more hobby oriented history community. Also r/AskHistorians or similar, although that one will take more effort and setting up than simply making the community. I personally use Reddit to see a couple memes and then read both of the subs I mentioned. I like seeing people who are passionate about a thing talk about the history of that thing.
This seems way too unlikely to happen, but r/askhistorians. It's an exceptionally well moderated (if a bit overzealous) community that allows for both the average person to ask seemingly impossible, very specific questions as well as academics to express their knowledge and passion for those very same super specific topics they find fascinating; but have difficulty finding an audience to listen to them in their day to day lives.
I'm really hoping for some quality archaeology/anthropology/history content as well, I started !humans for a kind of catch-all community (and yes, that's the best name I could come up with)
Honestly its just my local city subreddit, and the community for my favorite 2nd tier sports team. It has barely enough users even on reddit though, so it probably won't survive with a smaller overall user base.
I spend way too much time on r/coffee. A lot of people think we are pretentious snobs (which can be true sometimes) but we're just stuck in the neverending pursuit of the "perfect cup."
Also r/linguistics and r/mathematics are fun to read, especially when new papers are published and there's a discussion going on
A couple of my hobbies that I've seen barely getting started here... photography and mycology. There's a lot to explore in both without getting wrapped up in religion or politics.
If any sub can truly 100% move over it'd be one of the Linux subs, maybe then they'll stop posting memes about how they're posting memes on a closed source platform
