I haven’t helped out any OSS community projects in a while.

It’s time to do some drive-by PRs.

How amazing would it be if they brought back the evening music event at and it was Katy Perry.

@Amy BNL or bust.

I am working on a view that renders status's rich text. Some interesting tidbits:

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@gonzalezreal I've seen a few implementations of this in SwiftUI, and what ends up killing them all in the end is the ability to copy and paste the text as a cohesive block.

Have you considered how you might tackle this yet?

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@gonzalezreal I don't have an answer, just that using SwiftUI views for this without a supported API, or a workaround isn't the long term answer. We ended up using a modified macOS compatible version of Markdownosaur for Reveal, which outputs attributed strings: https://github.com/christianselig/Markdownosaur

ScreenTime started sending requests via Messages this morning, and it seems so much more reliable than the older notification-based approval process. Nice work, Apple!

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@ezekiel we use ScreenTime multiple times every week. I’ve never seen this UI before today.

Is there anything directly useful to app developers coming in Swift 5.9?

https://github.com/apple/swift/blob/release/5.9/CHANGELOG.md

The changelog has interesting stuff in it, but it seems pretty focused on stuff Apple might need internally for systems work right more (pointer API warning improvements and borrow/consume).

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@rjmccall I’m looking forward to learning how to use them! I assumed it wasn’t a complete list (Macros, Parameter Packs, et al) - I’m getting excited for WWDC 🤩

@nesevis your image is the new, more cultured "oof size”.

I love it.

Are there any guides on custom alignment guides that cover complex situations? Do they still work so long as some ancestor uses the custom alignment, or does it need to be a direct parent?

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@heckj it seems like it might reset if I use another container with a differing alignment inside the one using custom alignment.

Here's an example: https://gist.github.com/tonyarnold/571031cfe22e59176ceaed525a98ae97

Blergh.

Automatic Grammar Agreement is cool, but far out it's a stringly-typed API in dire need of a DSL or builder.

"^[(resultCount) ^[Result](grammar: { partOfSpeech: "noun" })](inflect: true)"

This is simpler than a stringsdict, but it's still a PITA to remember.

Scrolled back far enough in my music library to get to the songs from first WWDC I went to, and jfc that was 13 years ago? Death comes for us all

Oof. This morning, the battery in the car seems dead.

I guess that's expected, given it was off the road waiting for parts for 8 months of the past 12.

Traaaain roll on!

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@BrendanThompson there's a a sunk cost in here somewhere, but we're a long way from that.

Also, I can't afford another car.

@elementary OS 7 is out! https://blog.elementary.io/os-7-available-now/

When I'm running Linux, this is the smoothest damned experience I've found. It's super familiar for this Mac native.

I finally bought a lappy with the power I actually need instead of buying something overpowered. It also only cost $1600, so we'll see if I end up satisfied vs spending $5000 on the absolute best.

@heathborders that must have taken some unbelievable self control. Or a teensy bank balance.

I finally got my car back yesterday after over four months at the smash repairers. Brand new tyres, completely new back half of the car.

I’d been waiting for the curse to kick back in, and sure enough, Leah just sent me this in a message:

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@corduroy I’m just going to wait till Monday. There’s a tyre place at the end of my street.

There go the weekend plans 😩

Good luck with your repair 👍🏻

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@matpeterson yeah, I hope so. Those aren’t cheap tyres.

A couple people have said “I’ll see you at WWDC,” but I will actually be enjoying it from the comfort of my couch at home, sorry.

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@shantini that's absolutely the best place to watch from!

It's winter and the keynote starts at like 4am here in Australia, so I stay in my PJs, grab a blanket and a hot cup of tea and settle back on the couch in front of the telly.

My kids call WWDC "Dad’s Christmas”.

Now I'm excited about it again!

The best thing about macOS Ventura is the Memoji on the lock screen. I just caught mine doing Blue Steel as it unlocked 🤣
