witty_username, to science in Alzheimer’s Breakthrough: Researchers Discover Novel Way To Potentially Halt Disease Progression

Thanks, that was a good read. It is terrible that some researchers end up committing such scientific fraud. Although I am inclined to blame the involved researchers themselves, ultimately, I believe that inflexible (and insufficient) funding is the real culprit

witty_username, to cat in Shrine honors cats at a Japanese island where they outnumber humans

Wow, on the islands I know, humans outnumber the number of shrines

witty_username, to science in Alzheimer’s Breakthrough: Researchers Discover Novel Way To Potentially Halt Disease Progression

I’m surprised. As I understand it, the Alzheimer’s field is starting to recognize that the plaques are likely a result of, rather than a cause of, the disease. And that the cause may be more related to a, potentially microglia related, inflammatory problem in the CNS

Yes. Although at least you will both be aware that you are using different systems

witty_username, (edited ) to science_memes in Every base is base 10

I’m not sure if I fully understand.
I was thinking, wouldn’t it be easiest to describe the system you use by taking the last number in your first decimum and then saying you increment it with one?
E.g. for base ten this would be: base 9 + 1
For binary it would be: base 1 + 1
For hexadecimal it would be: base F + 1
Etc.

All your base are belong to 10

Check out this comprehensive review from 2022 about vaping and health:
doi.org/10.1136/bmj-2021-065997

The last bit in its conclusion section states:
“The true impact of vaping on respiratory health will manifest over the coming decades, but in the interval a prudent and time tested recommendation remains to abstain from consumption of inhaled nicotine and other products.”

witty_username, to chevron7 in Broken clock

Good point! I think you’re right. Although the idea of building them and their design would still have been made by non humans
