wjs018,

I am already a big fan of Izutsumi. She was incredibly wary of our party to begin with, but after protecting her from her curse that is activated, she is much more open to tagging along with everybody else.

Speaking of her curse…that’s pretty messed up right? She has to have the spellcaster touch her inscription every so often or else it will try to kill her? Basically a curse to try to prevent her from ever escaping. Oh, and that spellcaster? She chuffed off a while back leaving Izutsumi to her fate with nary an ounce of hesitation. All that without even mentioning how they chimera’d her into a cat person. Note to self, never end up a “retainer” of Shuro.

As for the nightmare sequence, we got more Laios/dog imagery. The difference between how Laios saw himself as a wolf compared to how Marcille saw him as a derpy puppy was pretty funny. Something that wasn’t clear to me was the book that Marcille has in her dream. Is that the spellbook that she has? the book that the mad mage has? are they the same book as each other? It wasn’t quite clear to me. The way that color flooded into the dream was pretty dope. Also, just like Laios, I was in disbelief when the spellbook was used, not to cast magic, but to bonk the monster away.

Five more episodes to go. That’s enough time to build up to another climax before season’s end, but I feel like we already had some pretty big climaxes recently, so there might not be something big to end the season on. Alternatively, it could be enough time for something big to happen outside the dungeon, like with the lord of the island, the elves, or best boy Kabru.

wjs018,

Sounds interesting. Might give this a try this summer. I haven’t taken a good look at the lineup for this summer’s shows, so I am not quite sure where on the priority list this one will fall. I have also found that there are a couple translator groups that, when I see they translated something, it makes it more likely for me to check it out.

wjs018,

Thought I would share another clip that I created for !anime over here.

wjs018,

Yeah, to be honest, I had stopped reading it at one point because the premise is…well…you know. However, I hadn’t removed it from my library yet. So, when I saw chapter 12 come through and that it was the end, I just quickly binged the last couple chapters so that I could remove it from my library guilt-free (other than the guilt that comes from having read it of course).

wjs018,

Everything else I’m reading I’m caught up on

Perfect time to pick up a couple (or a bunch) of new series to fill in the gaps! That is essentially what I do anyway. When I don’t see anything in my library that I am dying to read, I will often browse the recently updated on Mangadex to see if anything catches my eye.

wjs018,

Glad you like it! I had first watched the anime, having gone in completely blind other than knowing from visuals that it was a post-apocalyptic setting. The anime does a great job with the adaptation and got me super hooked. The animation was stellar, the way they pace out the mysteries and foreshadow things was great, and the OP was killer.

After the anime finished and there was no announcement for a season 2 (still no announcement 😞), I went ahead and binged what was available of the manga at the time. After I did that, I haven’t read any of it that has come out since because I felt like this was a series that benefited from the binge. Reading it all in one go keeps the foreshadowing from multiple volumes ago fresher in your memory, so that when the reveal happens, it is more satisfying. When I am reading a story like this 1 chapter/month at a time, I often just end up forgetting things and get confused.

I think I will re-binge the series now to get caught up to current. Being able to take part in the discussion threads will hopefully help keep things more top of mind going forward.

wjs018,

I do for series that I don’t enjoy enough to feel the need to keep around for a potential .5 chapter or two to show up much later. Also, if I really liked a series I will often keep it in my library to look it up more easily in the future.

wjs018,

Yeah, Tachiyomi got pulled due to some legal threats directed personally towards the maintainers by a Korean webtoon publisher. The project has since been forked and is now called mihon. Basically nothing else changed.

wjs018,

Bravern was a winter show, but both the OP and ED are absolutely top tier. In the Winter version of this thread, I wrote about both. I hadn’t watched Bravern yet at that point, but the OP alone was enough to convince me to give it a shot and it far exceeded all my expectations. Just a fantastic series that not enough people watched outside Japan. I have a couple clips I made and will be posting over time from the show (the first one was here). Really just want to preach the Bravern gospel.

wjs018,

I agree for the most part. I picked out my favorites of the season in my comment, but overall, I haven’t liked this season’s choices as much as I did this past winter season.

I haven’t watched the original Spice and Wolf, so I can’t really compare completely, but I don’t particularly mind this version’s OP; it just doesn’t really stand out either. In that regard, I like the ED a whole lot more and that is why it ended up on my list.

Also, I completely agree about Kaiju’s ED. I had seen people making a big deal about how they got OneRepublic to do the ED, but it is completely forgettable to me. At least the OP makes a much stronger impression on me, though I could see how it is polarizing with its extremely stylized CG visuals.

wjs018,

Jellyfish had some good ones. I haven’t been watching the series, but after watching them, I imagine that knowing the characters/story behind each one adds a lot of value.

wjs018,

So, I have been doing a lot of traveling recently and because of how fried I am after a whole day on the road, I have found myself watching more anime than reading manga. This has resulted in two recent developments:

First, I finished season 2 of Zombie Land Saga. Overall, I really enjoyed this show. The lore they introduced this season was a bit weird…but what isn’t weird about this show. The final 10 seconds of the finale makes me wonder what could possibly come next in the announced movie that is in production.

Second, I started watching Apothecary Diaries. Since the theme of this thread is OP/ED, let me just say that OP1 for this show is fantastic. Also, I have seen lots of people compare this show to House. I get it…but I think this is more like Sherlock Holmes since Maomao is asked about mysteries/puzzles that go pretty far beyond just medical/poison stuff. I am partway through the series right now, so there has been a series of mysteries that she has tackled so far. However, if this is following a typical Sherlock structure, I am expecting a Moriarty-type character to show up sooner or later. This will reveal some grander scheme that they have orchestrated will connect a lot of dots that didn’t seem related before.

wjs018,

Watching an episode or two at a time is just right for Mushishi. It definitely is one that benefits from some time to reflect on each episode. Glad you have enjoyed it! Plenty of other suggestions already in this thread on where you could go next (if not season 2 of Mushishi). Good luck on your anime journey!
