All the RAM and virtual memory in the world didn’t stop Final Cut Pro for iPad from cancelling an export the moment I switched to another app in Stage Manager for a split second🥴

@stroughtonsmith I’d just go back to the desktop version.

Do you sometimes feel like you've got bugs nobody else has ever had?

@stooovie what version of FCP and what kind of media is the clip?

wplate,

@stooovie Whoa, that recording is wild. I just tried the Hold stretching on a ProRes clip and while it didn't immediately reproduce, I did get the flashy behavior after trimming the end of the clip after setting the Hold. I’m sure you've reported it but I’ll report it too.

peeps:

any way to import folders as Events? One Finder folder=One FCPX Event with matching names?

It would be tremendously useful to me. One day of shooting = one event. As is, I have to manually create an event and copypaste filename, which is time consuming and annoying

@latenite

@stooovie @latenite I wish for this all the time. If you add new media to the Finder folder, do you want the event to auto-import that file?

Signed up for the Canadian Death Race in August! I’m excited, this has been on my list for a long time.

@WTL dairy before an ultra? Try something new on race day they say!

wplate,
@wplate@postchat.io avatar

@mathias @WTL Doesn’t your 2024 race calendar say you’ll be somewhere else on Aug 3?

@mathias @WTL sorry I misunderstood!

@latenite Hi Chris, I love CC's "Batch export from active timeline" feature and use it all the time for roundtripping with AE BUT could we please omit this warning dialog every time?

wplate,
@wplate@postchat.io avatar

@stooovie @samplue @latenite Ximport AE was going to be my suggestion. 🤩

wplate,
@wplate@postchat.io avatar

@stooovie @samplue @latenite I always liked not making new assets from FCP for AE to use and letting AE use the same exact files FCP is using.

Since we haven't got to see much on-device footage before now, here's Vision - Where is Ploppy?

@stroughtonsmith is the hand computer generated? It seems to move unnaturally.

Keynote is the only app in the iWork suite that has a native visionOS version currently uploaded to the App Store; it joins the TestFlight app.

At this time (still a couple weeks from launch), none of Apple’s other non-in-box apps have native visionOS versions from what I can see.

(EDIT: Playgrounds looks to be available in iPad compatibility mode. GarageBand, Final Cut Pro, Logic, and iMovie do not appear to be available at all)

@stroughtonsmith Final Cut Pro for iPad, or real Final Cut Pro?

wplate,
@wplate@postchat.io avatar

@stroughtonsmith Not obvious to me, but thank you for the reply. I didn’t know Mac apps wouldn’t be usable in VisionPro. That changes my hopes for ever using the device.

wplate,
@wplate@postchat.io avatar

@WTL @stroughtonsmith You should! If you’re a heavy FCP user you’ll probably instantly hit FCP for iPad’s differences.

Not that it isn’t useful for some user types, but we aren’t its target market.

There are three primary archetypes for visionOS usage that I can see:

  1. On a couch, consuming media/movie watching
  2. At a desk, with physical keyboard and mouse/trackpad
  3. Wandering around your house, using the virtual keyboard

Where do your apps fit in? Have you identified a different niche that makes sense for you?

(I have, of course, seen the fun 'painting a picture at the park’ videos of the Quest 3, but that's probably not a normal use case 😛)

@stroughtonsmith a variation on option 2, I’m hoping that one day, after my van is converted, I’ll be able to sit or stand in my small space but feel like I’m at my desk with multiple large displays.
