It's not about brand recognition, it's about spreading the users out over multiple servers so no one instance gets too big/costly/unmanageable. Beehaw just defederated themselves from Lemmy for having "too many trolls from open sign up policy". I can still see and interact with beehaw from kbin for now, idk how long that will last because kbin also has open sign up.
Some people are so fragile. Fox News of course is saying feds have banned non US flags, of course lying to their viewers about what is actually happening.
So I notice that KBIN and BEEHAW and LEMMY all have duplicate pages dedicated to the same content. Are we as a community going to have to decide which page will be the 'main' page, will we have to subscribe to each magazine for each instance, or will they consolidate eventually?...
Ok so for example, if you wanted to subscribe to the technology group on Lemmy you would just type technology@lemmy.ml into the search bar on Kbin and click the subscribe button. You can then also do the same for technology@beehaw.org and they will all show up on your Kbin feed.
You just made me realize I've been sitting here for two hours in a now-dark room and I haven't turned the TV on yet. Fediverse truly is like the old reddit.
Yeah I think they're underestimating how many people just won't use the official app. The people who use Apollo, RiF, Relay, etc. are pretty attached.
I know for me reddit is just the app on my phone that I press when I'm bored now. I figured when the app doesn't work anymore I'll just find entertainment elsewhere, which is how I found the fediverse. Now that I'm here the whole concept of decentralized interconnected communities has totally sold me on the project.
The problem with reddit, Twitter, twitch, etc. as I see it is that they're all just trying to profit off their users somehow. That's not conducive to fostering healthy communities of people. I think this whole thing is the future of social networking, take the big corps out of the equation.

Isn't it ironic.... that we all left reddit because 3rd party apps were being killed off, and came to a place where there are no 3rd party apps.
