I’m a Reddit refugee who was on that platform for 10+ years. I saw not just a tremendous amount of controversies, but attempts at introducing alternatives to Reddit during all of them. The 2015 blackout saw a ton of alternatives suggested, and if you go back and look at them many have either not survived or never achieved...
Old forums are still alive, very much, they're just a lot more niche because you probably need a desktop computer to read them easily, but here are three examples:
Apple has joined the growing number of organizations opposed to the UK's pending Online Safety Bill, saying the proposed law threatens the end-to-end encryption that protects private messages....
But I can see the post just with the "[deleted]" username, or is it just me? I edited those to say something else and then delete them, so I wonder if I'm the only one I can see them.
I'm sure everyone lately has noticed there's a tonne of hate on the privacy subreddit, with every new post/comment there getting more and more aggresive than the last...
and yet users will not complain, I heard people say "those who use old.reddit.com are just cranky senile people" or something like that, some of us prefer old.reddit.com even if we were nine when browsing on desktop
Oh yeah I always said "idea" never "finished product" if someone wants to take a crack on it and improve it, they're not just guest, they can come to any part of this house.
well more people could help in a way, for example, making a 3D version of it with super realism, out of my realm for now, as long as people are in for a cacatua or any bird
Also, as a way to represent the people who "flew away" from Reddit.
The bird is from Oceania, sounds silly but is not a animal commonly found in nature outside that place, meaning it evokes foreignity for a part of the userbase here.
C'mon guys, is a Cacatua, it can't get cooler than that...
Adama is right, I mean a mascot not an app icon, I just put it in an app background, just because. Lemmy has the mouse I think is a mouse, Reddit the Snoo, Kbin could have the Kbird.
Take in mind a lot of magazines still have the Snoo in their icons, if you want migration a simple, oh in Kbin you replace the Snoo with X should be sufficient. This wouldn't be in mind if the Snoo wasn't still so prevalent here.
What I think kbin needs to do to survive, and why I think it has a better chance than any other Reddit alternative I've seen yet.

Pt.2 of the Kbird mascot. Thoughts on these two designs?
Again, based on @FixedFun 's original designs so creds to them for the idea....
Apple says UK Online Safety Bill is “serious threat” to end-to-end encryption (arstechnica.com)

I still appear on Google and I edited and deleted all my comments, this is BS! (www.google.com)
BS, I say!
r/Piracy probably needs a rethink

What's the easiest way to cure severe constipation?
I prefer regular foods that help with constipation, not meds.
Can someone tell me the reason why these people don't want to leave Reddit?

This single sentence is the best summary I have seen yet of the way Reddit admins/corporate is treating moderators and supporters: "The beatings will continue until morale improves"
All that effort for nothing (lemmy.world)

OC Here's the nice Kbird with changes that people suggested, is OK if it isn't the mascot of Kbin but it will always live in our hearts, the real mascot was the friends we made along the way.
OC Here's my final idea for a Kbin mascot, I call it the "Kbird" (K = Kakatuá), since someone shared a Fediverse flag resembling a pirate flag I thought a bird mascot would fit.
