IncognitoWolf,

Ahh, I see Russia is playing Tropico in real life

IncognitoWolf,

I used to work on turbines, and I can attest the bird argument is very blown out of proportion. In my time working on turbines I never saw a single dead bird near the bases. We had a farm of Vestas V112-3.3mw turbines. Noise i can see, those blades whip through the air and cause almost the same sound as a distant jet as they whip by. Its not too loud unless winter then its very noticeable when the blades ice up. The hydraulics and such can be loud as well but its not terribly loud.

However the biggest thing I noticed was how not green they are when it comes to the lubricants. Its not uncommon to have the pitch cylinders leak, and fill the hub and spinner with oil. Lots of times the blade bearing grease would overfill the cups and throw grease in the spinner. Another thing is the hydraulic systems would leak and cause excessive oil spillage, which sometimes would make its way out into the world. We could only clean with rags and pig mats so its super oily and greasy everywhere. The cooling systems would also leak and usually spill many gallons of coolant out into the wind.

IncognitoWolf,

There are plenty of Systemdless forks of distros. People do maintain and it works well. However, the issue is to make the forks its incredibly labor intensive for coders and while not impossible to remove systemd, it's extremely hard. When base apps require systemd, it locks you down to that one system which is why people hate it so much. It centralizes code and the systems and prevents ease of choice. Does it work? Yes. Though even if it doesn't affect you or your thoughts, its good to understand why there is a divide. I personally use Artix Linux at the moment with S6 as my init system and it works great. I get why people like Systemd, but I feel it sterilizes our freedom of choice like a frog in a pot of water.

SteamVR Failing under Artix. Error 460, anyone know what I am missing?

Been looking for a solution for a bit, trying out many possible solutions, and SteamVR fails out with a Valve Index with an error code 460. I have tried it under Void Linux as well with the same code, but Devuan it worked however proton failed out. Everything works under Windows, just trying to migrate over to Linux for my...

IncognitoWolf,

To anyone who finds this and has had this issue: appears to have been solved for me by changing my file descriptors limit from 4096 to 524288.

IncognitoWolf,

While I think Musk is an idiot, Starlink before I had fiber ran to me for some ungodly reason was a godsend. Also, space is big. 42000 satellites is still super insignificant in spaceborne objects over the planet. Also their design is so they burn up relatively quickly, and do not hang out in orbit for long, iirc only a couple years and constantly need to burn to maintain altitude. Sure they look like shit in the sky, but having the network like this is great for rural areas where there is no cell phone or internet service. But, the whole thing isn't very sustainable

IncognitoWolf,

Yes, cell/radio towers operate on Line of Sight. In flat, no vegetation lands you can see for data towers maybe 5 to 10 miles of range radius from the tower. In more realistic conditions you see 2 to 4 miles at best range. You'd be surprised how many cellular towers there are everywhere hiding in plain sight, since the high frequency bands such as 1900mhz don't have penetration like 600mhz bands do. Lower frequency tends to not be as fast as higher frequency bands so its usually a tradeoff for speed or range. Before I was running Starlink I used to run 4G internet, and because where I live is rural, hilly, and full of trees, I had no direct line of sight. 1000 dollars in special parabolic radio antennas were required to focus on signal reflections to get data signal and even then I only had 3 bars roughly of signal. The tower is about 3.5mi away as the crow flies.

IncognitoWolf,

Not all, my isp expanded a fiber network to me. I live deep on a dirt road in the middle of the woods in the middle of nowhere. Sure some pocketed but its unfair to say all did.

IncognitoWolf,

I dunno, I suggest looking at places like The Furry Fediverse. Lots of instances there for the furries! Cyberfurz is an instance I would recommend. But at the end of the day, the only real way to get artists to follow is to just be the change you want, and they will follow for the interaction. Places get big and centralized because "all my friends are there" or similar.

IncognitoWolf,

Chorizos and Honey on a pizza. Its so good!

IncognitoWolf,

Mid 30s, automotive speed shop owner. Build fast cars, and have fun. Avid VR enthusiast, spend a lot of time in VR, and do VR content creation. Tech enthusiast as well, built my own eye tracking setup for my Index using eyetrackvr software. Though not good at typing on the phone, I guess I am old, lol. Sent this on my phone so... woo

IncognitoWolf,

I mean, as an asexual its hit and miss if I enjoy it. Like, being such a small subset i feel removed from most societal norms. Those with a sex drive, regardless who its for, still fit in to the sexual nature of human existence while I don't. I don't get off nor do I have attractions to any gender, I lack all of a sex drive so I am mainly one who views everything from the outside. Then again I love it as I am not distracted by anything and don't have those sexual vices. I however don't really come out to anyone about it unless it comes up in conversation, as most people don't seem to understand how it's even possible. I been told many times that I am lying or I just haven't found the right person yet.

IncognitoWolf,

ASCII pictures of John Oliver within command lines/terminals

IncognitoWolf,

John Oliver is a good sport about it, one, secondly he is a goofy motherfucker, third he has a track record of calling out things for being shitty/bad in ridiculous ways. So, it's totally a John Oliver thing to do, to make all of Reddit about John Oliver because of the API change. It's silly, it calls out the shitty practices, and honestly the whole practice will stick in the minds of people better than just a blackout/complaining. On top of all this, it has the possibility of being brought to his show when the strike is over, which'll further the goal of the protests

IncognitoWolf,

we can rest assured that John Oliver is collecting all the sexy pics people photoshop/post and is going to put together a Last Week Tonight episode on this, once the strike is over.

IncognitoWolf,

I was subbed to it before the great migration. It was /r/ThatsABooklight

IncognitoWolf, to RedditMigration

I keep looking back at what's happening with Reddit, not because I want to go back, but just morbid curiosity on if they will ever get their head out of their ass. The more I see, the more I feel the move to kbin was the right move. Removing mods, falsifying information, lying, deception, and just not listening to the community. Not only that, just looking at the content post blackout and it isn't the same anymore.

IncognitoWolf,

@SirMrR4M I have looked at the front page here and there, and it's a shell of what it used to be. There are users and repost bots just doing their thing, but the quality seems far less, and the interaction has dropped. I think the full scope of what's happening won't be apparent for a while but the effects have now created more viable alternatives to reddit by boosting interaction on those platforms. Reddit just fueled their own competition.

IncognitoWolf,

I feel they are missing the point. Stickshift feels so good because you're mechanically connected to the car. Enthusiasts like cars not because numbers, because they have soul and personality. Combine the soul and personality with the direct analog connection with a car, it just feels right. Electric cars, while may be great for the day-to-day, I don't think will really sate enthusiasts. Adding in fake features just makes you even that much more disconnected with a car.

IncognitoWolf,

Color me shocked </s> downplaying the blackout at first, now that it's shown to not just be a 48hr thing, they are trying to force the mods hands to reopen. And if they don't reopen, then they will force them to reopen by replacing the mod team. This should all be documented from every mod team that has been threatened and their private notices should reflect the threats Reddit is giving them.

IncognitoWolf,

New name, I always preferred the anonymity of reddit, even if you could technically trace someone with enough post history. So, starting with a new name starts that tracing who I am fresh. After 9 years of Reddit, I am sure my old name had a lot of info about me as a whole.

IncognitoWolf,

I read somewhere else that, if he does such a thing, Reddit will lose their Safe Harbor status and becomes liable for things on the platform. IANAL but if that's the case, it'd be 100% not within their interest to do that.
