"Don't sell my personal information" sounds really dystopian, don'tcha think?

@Playingwithethenew A bit, since it doesn't include "don't give my personal information away for free with any purchase".

What two-letter words should be in the (English) Scrabble dictionary?

I'll go first: Any plural of a letter (e.g. "three bs in bubble", "ps in your font", "typing vs on this keyboard"). Listed in Merriam-Webster as "sometimes not cap", yet it's not in their Scrabble dictionary.

How come more people are searching "mastodon" this week?

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=mastodon&hl=en-US

ItsaB3AR,

Lenny is showing them how well a fediverse can work, so they want to try more social media based on it. Also twitter is a tire fire right now.

can,

Twitter rate limiting and broader fediverse awareness.

Lowkey, it feels like the start of a new era of the Internet.

DashboTreeFrog,

I hope so, but it feels like Reddit is still going strong, somehow Twitter is still kicking, and Facebook’s audience are fully locked in at this point.

I agree, it feels like things are changing as everyone is seeing just how little the people in charge of these tech companies care for their users, but I worry it’s going to be incredibly slow change…

Playingwithethenew,

@terve The "Fediverse" era. The one where the fediverse becomes more popular.

If I post here, does it reflect on the Lemmy instance?

Perchance. I can see this post from lemmy for now. But remember, any lemmy back-end updates could potentially break lemmy-kbin interoperability.

eldain,

Only if you post a mirror.

How do this and Lemmy and Mastodon and the others connect to each other?

useful_idiot,

They use a protocol call ActivityPub defined here www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/

Kocher,

There is a common protocol called ActivityPub that is implemented by all the different platforms of the fediverse. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ActivityPub
