Have you ever had one of your D&D characters die? Was it because of roleplay choices or just bad dice luck? Did you enjoy making and playing a new character or did you find it difficult to be 'new to the party' or to separate player knowledge and character knowledge?...
I'm doing something similar with one of my PCs in my current campaign, she actually went down and to two death saves when I had her diety show up and basically be like "you can choose to die now, you've fought hard you're tired, but if you choose to live, choose to fucking live!" I'm gonna have to think of some consequences for them coming back to life now, but I think the message got through to their character :) it was so much fun!
What annoys me the most about shit like this is people don't seem to understand how much more important it is that I just START the task, as opposed to doing the task efficiently. Like I don't care if it's not the absolute best way to do it, I just need to do it.
