We have a duty to keep these spaces alive

What's this "we" shit? You mean You. You, faceless corporation, have a duty to keep the communities open and accessible by as many eyeballs as your little ads can handle. Mods are unpaid employees that manage your toxic users and keep your website profitable. You pushed too hard. You took too much for granted. And now you think you're not the next Digg.

Capitalists gonna exploit free labor, burn down good will, and jump ship when they run aground. Some day we may learn to stop giving corpos free resources in exchange for their benevolence. Because they haven't any. They're leeches. They monetized the internet, as they do everything, and they don't care about the things they create or the people that come to rely on them. Yeah he's a low-rent Elon but Steve isn't gonna be moved by any of this protesting any more than the Emerald Prince is over Twitter. It doesn't matter if it's a losing battle for him. He'll get his cut and the rest can burn.

If you're following Shudder, The Devil's Candy arrived not long ago. This is a 2015 IFC Midnight release. 93/65% RT @80 min.

Pass for me, mashup of tropes that has no time to develop into a good story. The problem with this movie is the script. It's an Amityville meets killer stranger concoction that doesn't take the time it needs to build the tension that a haunted-by-evil new house story requires. It instead relies on the rhythmic fear induction of a crazy stalker-invader that harasses the family from the outside.

So neither formula ends up working exceptionality well. The heavy metal theme of the film isn't even treated with any reverence, like Mandy or even Deathgasm. It's just a dressing that ends up jettisoned from the story and character development until the cheap and throwaway guitar climax. Even the Satanic element is largely forgotten as the family deals with the direct physical threat.

And all that with a final shot that at least in one interpretation undermines the whole "it's pretty cool and fine to be a heavy metal dad" subtext. In fact, one could easily interpret the film as low-key satanic panic. It's hard to tell what the filmmakers intended. I wasn't annoyed by this movie, just disappointed. I'm gonna go watch Mandy again.

My childhood of Sesame Street and Transformers and Dr. Suess didn't prepare me adequately for the horrors of humanity.

But at least I didn't become a monkey torturer. So there's that.

I haven't played a LoZ game for a long time but I finally got around to my first Ganon kill in BotW. So very satisfying. On to Master Mode!

    Thoughts:

    • I wish I could have kept playing after the Ganon fight and ending.
    • I loved all the callbacks, cues, and Easter eggs from previous games.
    • Durability was a sticking point that kept me away from this installment. It was a non-issue after all.
    • Hyrule is an incredible place and exploring it is a joy.
    • This felt most like the original LoZ than any other game I've played. And I loved that.
    • I didn't like this Princess Zelda. I did like the Champions.
    • The Shrines worked. The Divine Beasts were fine. I miss dungeons. The puzzles felt isolated and repetitive, and I prefer themed dungeons to this. But it wasn't bad.
    • The over world made up for this feeling. So much detail.

Overall this game has lived up to its reputation. Absolutely gonna play through again and then on to TotK.

I didn't like the term "Redditor" and I don't wanna be called anything based on what website I go to.

For one thing, being called a "Redditor" was typically a negative. It was a dismissive. The "hive mind" and all that. I don't wanna be associated with a "community vibe." I just want to visit an aggregator that doesn't have corporate baggage and an agenda.

My thing is, we're all just people. Using a web service. So that's what I call us. People. On the internet. I don't need or want some tribal moniker. Not here. Not across a decentralized system.

What got you into Vinyl ?

I started collecting almost 3 years ago when I kept popping into a record store @waxandbeans. Couldnt afford a decent turntable until recently though so I waited. Money was all over the place so I bought and sold but Ive got back all the ones I sold. For me its a combination of the sound quality and The local community on it....

This is gonna show my increasing status as an older guy, but I grew up around my dad's small collection of Zeppelin and Clapton records. Inherited them too. But they sat alone until vinyl started making a comeback. Now they're joined by Electric Wizard, Windhand, Bell Witch, and some Sabbath represses. And more.

So at some point I'd wound up on Bandcamp after the digital age took over my music acquisition, and I saw that the bands I was listening to were releasing on vinyl. Doom loves vinyl. And I love doom. So I started ordering records of my favorites.

I had a co-worker was way into vinyl lifetime, used to DJ professionally. He recommended a few things. Massively upgraded my listening experience.

And I'm thankful vinyl made a comeback because 8-tracks sucked. I did not take any of those from my dad's collection.

If he's taking his cues from that dingus, Reddit's in bigger trouble than we thought.

He might be able to pull the site out of the fire as a business, but it's never again going to be the place we once knew.

Never know, it might take off. Eventually. I didn't follow that sub, but then I'm not going back to R anyway. So sure, here I am. Better late than never.

This isn't news so much as it is an editorial.

It all started thirty years ago. Thrash was the beginning. Some time later, I discovered Gothic and Symphonic metal. And of late, I've fallen head over heels for Doom.

Some favs include (early) Metallica, Windhand, Bell Witch, Sunn O))), Type O Negative, etc.

Nods to Elder, Monolord, Shape of Despair, Nadja, some Ahab, Electric Wizard, Uncle Acid.
