Reddit's priorities aren't the same as someone developing an app for ease of use, readability, accessibility, etc. Reddit only cares about the backend tech that helps them control and serve ad space. And if you want to believe the bts tea that recently spilled, Reddit doesn't even structurally prioritize coding and development in the first place.

I was an rif die-hard. Such an elegant, useful app. It's nothing like its source site.

I'll be working regularly to address the appearance and functionality of the magazine as time, technology, and accessibility permits. I worked on a smallish (1500 subscriber) niche fan subreddit and I appreciate a good and attractive page. I will never make this magazine either unreadable or unappealing, to the best of my ability.

Any suggestions are always appreciated, particularly as this instance and the tech develops.

Looks like it's an unrelated death. Naturally, a news media headline implies a connection.

"Journalism"

"If you build it, they will come"

I think we all can agree that the main thing holding back the growth of kbin and lemmy throughout all of the reddit drama is a lack of accessibility. Kbin and lemmy both capture the spirit of reddit in their style and userbase, but really lack the ease of use that led to millions of people adopting reddit. Looking at the trends,...

I've only been here for a few days and I have already seen an improvement as more users have come in, so I believe it.

And in my view as well, it's neither desirable nor reasonable to expect fedi to totally replace reddit either overnight, or yeah, even ever. The result of centralized social media is Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, and mental illness, divisiveness, and disinformation. The structure has to change, and so do our expectations.

My reddit account is 14 years old. I remember posting regularly. That stopped about 5 or 6 years ago. It just felt like there was no point. Everything you can think of has already been posted before you woke up in the morning. I even stopped voting. It was like spitting into a hurricane. My last years on reddit were spent trying desperately to curate a better experience.

What I hope for here is that with expansion will in time bring features that will help us maintain control over our feeds, and by extension our sanity.

Castlevania soundtracks tend to rank high for me. I love that driving, symphonic Gothic sound.

I chose to create a magazine called Cosmic Horror, in part, because I wanted to develop something for a more specific audience than what's already out there. But as a subscriber to r/lovecraft I wanted to branch out from the specificity of a Lovecraft magazine. I don't want to attempt to replace that community directly, though I admit the overlap of what that sub covers and what I would like to build here is substantial.

More than anything, I wanted the title of this place to more accurately reflect the genre as it stands now, rather than tie it back once more to its master by invoking his name. Lovecraft will always be a part of cosmic horror, but the subgenre has entered a new plateau in the public consciousness and I think a new community should bear the recognition proudly.

Oppenheimer's Christopher Nolan on How A.I. Can Be an "Extraordinary Step Forward" for Filmmakers (www.syfy.com)

If the term "Pandora's box" was ever applicable to a scientific breakthrough, the Manhattan Project's detonation of the first atomic bomb in the summer of 1945 would have to be a frontrunner alongside genetic editing, super colliders, and artificial intelligence.

It's rare for a filmmaker so dedicated to analog, in-camera effects, and general tradition praising something as nascent as machine learning. But Nolan is the kind of artist that seems to appreciate the power of new tools as they emerge. It's not surprising to hear, based on his past use of vfx.

I'm not terribly impressed with machine learning as a product but at least he's on the right track with using it where it excels.

There's no cutoff. Find a better dating pool.

This is a total gimmick, but I'd be lying if I said bdsmtest.org wasn't one of my first exposures to the world of kink. Post your results below! (bdsmtest.org)

Freshman year of college the dorm floor that I lived on gathered 30+ people and we all took this test together. One thing led to another and a group of us ended up joining the local munch in our town! Definitely one of my best memories and my first foray into the BDSM community.

Way too low on the Daddy scale and too high on the Brat Tamer but otherwise fairly accurate.

Hopefully 12 years is enough to allow him to rethink his stupidity or at least disable him as a threat.

Kbin and Lemmy should come to a consensus on how to name stuff

Is there really a reason, for example, for there to be the distinction of "magazine" and "community"? When you're federating, the same features should be called the same, if close enough. That way everyone can talk with everyone about stuff and we all immediately understand each other....

Create your own instance and name them whatever you want.

FR tho, think about what you're suggesting. Take all this decentralized content and homogenize it? Hard pass. BTDT.

That took me a bit to figure out- me being the suspicious type and new to fedi, I needed to investigate. So a bug prompted me to learn something about how this place functions.

The best way to protest against reddit is simply to not interact with Reddit

I see a lot of posts about how they uploaded anti-spez stuff onto reddit, or participated in the nsfw spams/john oliver spams. While I get wanting to let it all out, this ultimately keeps up engagement on reddit rather than bringing it down....

For my mental health it's better I go quietly. Focus on more positive things. Reddit doesn't care. I think it's reasonable to go out however suits you.

Nail polish works for me. It just sets people off, like they can't handle a hetero-looking guy wearing iridescent metallic green. Or, they get the impression I'm going for.
