Zebrazilla

@Zebrazilla@kbin.social

The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we… kill those people.

It's just a ride.

Block function not working quite right

Hey, just wanted to mention this thing I noticed. So I blocked a user after a few rounds in a thread, but when they responded to me, I still got the notification and could still see the first line of their post from that screen. But the entire comment thread, including my own replies, was invisible from the article page until I...

Highly recommend both the script Kbin Federation Awareness and kbin social add home-instance name to username. Makes it a lot easier to tell where things are originating from at a glance!

This is the way! Though I personally prefer Violentmonkey.

This, definitely this! The suspend feature is a lifesaver and really makes it so much more likely for me to stick with and finish a game that I truly enjoy.

Glad I chose kbin over lemmy at this point. I'm hoping @ernest to be more levelheaded and not wield the defederation hammer as lightly.

I'd prefer being able to see as much of the fediverse from one instance as possible.

It wasn't my intention to try to "own" anyone. The content I listed is literally what I've seen from the few communities I subscribe to from exploding-heads. Neither look like they could reasonably qualify as hate speech to me.

I do suppose that some could view exposing wide spread corruption, human rights abuses and war crimes as interference.

Regarding the latter, surely the focus was on decriminalizing cannabis. I personally find that laudable for any political candidate, no matter where in the world they are located, geographically or on the political spectrum.

If it makes you feel any better, I had blocked you too after the "cry baby" comment, when I suddenly got a notification that you had replied, and similarly unblocked you just to respond. Funny how that works.

Zebrazilla,

That is an oversimplification of the "cool story".

@VoxAdActa called me a "cry baby" out of nowhere, "for having to go somewhere else to see hate speech".

I then showed him what I've seen so far from having been subscribed to two different communities over on exploding-heads, and I went on to state that I hardly see how that content is hate speech.

I was trying to elaborate that I wasn't interested in whatever memes they have in a certain community over there, but rather the other content that can be found on that instance, of which I gave examples of. Examples that I would argue are not hate speech in the slightest.

To answer your question though; I'd argue that the claims of hate speech seem overblown to me, yes. Not because of my limited exposure to the instance, but by the examples brought in the defederation announcement, which seem to consist of a couple of bad, edgy memes.

It's highly likely this is happening due to @ernest working on this aspect currrently. He said as much yesterday, so it's probably only temporary.

"Antiwoke" magazin on kbin.social posting bullshit like "how to end Wokeness" and "Time to reject the extrem trans lobby harming our society" How to report ? he is the moderator of that magazin. (calckey.social)

@ernest how do I report a Magazin on kbin.social ? There is a usere called "ps" who is posting to his own "antiwoke" Magazin on kbin.social. Please remove this and dont give them a chance to etablish them self on kbin.social. When I report his stuff it will go to him because he is the moderator of the magazin? Seems like a...

I would add Deus Ex, the original, to that list. Solid 70 fps always, feels great on 70 hz screen! The UI is a perfect size for the Steam Deck screen too.

It's really the Deus Ex Deck for me currently tbh.

Should we make communities for specific games?

Something I miss from Reddit was that just about all my favorite games had their own subreddits. Like I happen to be a huge fan of Snowrunner but I don’t see any communities specifically about Snowrunner on Lemmy. But Elden Ring has a community on 2 instances with less than 100 subs total. I think the one hosted on Lemmy.world...

I think so, yes. Made @DeusEx for this reason.

Anyone know if there is a consistent way to link to magazines/communities? !DeusEx seems to be something I see, but doesn't seem to work on kbin.

Edit: Neither does @DeusEx, strange. How about just DeusEx@kbin.social?

Editedit: No automatic link for the latter. Maybe this is something that still needs to be worked on in kbin, and will get attention in due time.

This is the reason I haven't bought it yet. Tempted to play it on Steam Deck, but not in the least tempted to play it for a while only to have it thwarted later by an anti cheat that doesn't work on Linux.

Quake Champions is a surprisingly good game to play with people who don't usually play arena fps games, I'd give it that. A friend or two and bots works very well and is a lot of fun for a while.

Best places to get human reviews/recommendations outside of reddit?

Often times when duckduckgoing (is that the right term for that) advice for products, I use the !ddgr key to directly search reddit for advice. But in a post-blackout world, I need to do this a lot less. So I want to know what the best places are to get reviews and advice for products that are human and not top 10 listicals.

Zebrazilla,

If you still want to target reddit, without overtly giving traffic to reddit, I highly recommend one of the many LibReddit instances. And with something like LibRedirect you could still be doing !ddgr and click any reddit links, and always get redirected directly to an appropriate LibReddit instance.

It seems like a tricky thing to deal with technically due to how the Fediverse works, and I know far too little about ActivityPub to feel comfortable with coming with any ideas. I would however like to point out what I think we'll be seeing more of with this trajectory. Here's someone on kbin getting called out for downvoting and also explicitly named in a comment: https://kbin.social/m/wholesome/t/80838/To-the-one-guy-who-keeps-downvoting-m-wholesome-threads

For what it's worth, the game works perfectly out of the box on Steam Deck via Proton, didn't even had to force compatibility to use any specific Proton version. So at least it does work, and you can see others being successful on protondb too as linked by @PeachMan.

Personally I am very happy with getting the ProCase with the flip cover. Now I can leave it around in more places without being as worried, as I've opted not to use a screen protector.

I was a bit worried first, having read about how the cover is a bit loose, but I found that this isn't much of an issue thus far. Once it's on there, I can tighten it a bit by pressing in on the hook or whatever, lift the magnetic part and pull on it to get a firmer grip. Also hear that the analogs could get pressed down on an earlier model, but the one I got hasn't had that issue at least.

The biggest problem I've had is that my SteelSeries dongle no longer fits as the case is in the way, so my next step is to try using a small extender just to get the dongle away from the case a bit.

Anyway, didn't see the ProCase Flip Cover in the list and would definitely recommend it.
