what are the downsides of a diagnosis?

im pretty sure im autistic, or at least neurodivergent in some way. i think getting tested would give me some peace of mind and validation, but it’s not extreme to where i would need extra help. so i dont really need to be diagnosed if itll just make my life harder. i heard that if diagnosed, you have to take your driving test...

I wouldn't even know where to get a diagnosis as an adult. All the resources in my area seem offer evaluations to children only.

He is on Mastodon. I follow him there. Now I'm going to have to go see if his account is still active.

It's nothing but a popularity contest. We don't need that here.

Click on your name in the upper right and choose settings. The very first thing in settings lets you set your homepage to your subscriptions.

Not that I know of. You may need to click the kbin logo on the upper left. I randomly need to do that sometimes to see just my subs even though I have subs set as my home page.

Have you ever been accused of just having social anxiety?

A few months ago I was working on a project with someone. He had the habit of calling me all the time to talk about it, but I keep my phone permanently on DND and I would often miss his calls. It would take me a while, sometimes a couple of days, to get back to him. I preferred to deal with him through text or email, because I...

Good portable stim/fidget toys for adults?

I just finished a long and insanely stressful sensory overload appointment to deal with some government paperwork stuff, and I realized partway in that I could REALLY use something unobtrusive to stim with. Anybody have good recommendations for something small enough to slip into my purse and that wouldn't look far too awkward...

I've carried a small polished rock in my pocket for years. It's shaped just right so that I can hold in one hand and rub it with my thumb.

Hey this happens to me! Something in my ear just twitches for only a second or two and I hear a vibrating sound. It happens randomly and doesn't seem to be triggered by anything. It's also pretty rare. Maybe a couple times a month. I never thought that it sounded like thunder though and so didn't make the connection. This sounds (Haha. See what I did there?) like the most plausible explanation yet.

I've actually heard of this before. Is it common? Do you know of other people like this?

arth,
arth avatar

That's weird. I've never heard of anything like that before.

I often hear my wife's voice when I'm on the edge of sleep. Sometimes it's so clear I'll ask her what's up, and she'll look at me like I'm crazy.

arth,

This actually makes a lot of sense.

arth,

Jeezus, I've never had the experience of hearing someone screaming at me on the edge of sleep. That sounds horrifying! For me, it's always like she's calling to me from another room, like "Honey can you come here?"

Have a look at tilvids.com. I know of a couple of large YouTubers that crosspost their stuff there, and there are probably more that I don't know about.

arth,

Aren't magazine names here case-sensitive? Did you try searching for /m/Autism instead?

arth,

Agreed. This place shouldn't be a popularity contest.

It's my understanding that "reputation points" isn't fully implemented yet and means nothing right now. I can't point to a source for this. Something I read somewhere that I've forgotten.

There are multiple secured doors at my workplace I have access to, and they all have a little sticker next to the keypad showing a telephone style keypad with the letters. Those are there to remind you of what numbers to press for the four letter word you chose to represent your PIN. When I'm in the security office and choosing a new PIN, because the keyboard numpad is different, I'll ask the person to turn their desk phone around so I can see the numbers to choose my PIN.

This actually happened to me a couple of years ago. This woman came into my office and after we were finished with business, she said something like "I have two tickets to the baseball game. Would you like to come with me?" And I was like "No thanks. I don't like baseball very much." then turned away and started working on something else.

After she left, everyone in my office said "OMG she just asked you out!" I didn't get that at all and totally missed it. Besides, I'm married.

Heh. I didn't even think of trying this. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is it difficult for you to complete a project?

Right now I have a project that's been unfinished for over a month. It was something I repaired that didn't work, but I got everything working and now I've lost interest in it. It's still there on my bench all torn apart. It all works, but I just can't bring myself to take that last little step to button it all up....

Oof. The rando thing. Thoughts and prayers.
