That's a lot of caveats. So you're saying there are situations where you'll walk into a bar, buy a beer, and not tip?

So don’t work that job. Shit pay should result in nobody working there.

Oh yeah everyone can just go to the job store and get a new job at-will and there are absolutely no external factors that could impact that. Clearly they work for minimum wage + tips at a thankless job serving people like you out of their passion for the work.

This whole thread is people railing against a strawman/implying they're somehow sticking it to businesses to justify their not wanting to tip. It's pathetic.

If you're not going to tip out of some faux moral outrage against the practice then you shouldn't frequent the businesses that use tips to get around paying a living wage.

That's not a bartender/bar scenario, we are way afield of that. If you step into a bar and order a drink, do you ever not tip (aside from the obvious such as really really rude/nasty service)?

You have a lot more control over where you buy your food and drinks then other people do over their employment. I know you know this.

hoodatninja,

I don’t think it’s controversial to say you don’t typically tip fast food because we don’t have a culture of that.

It’s not “regardless.” You threw out a nonsense soundbite and you will continue to do that until I stop engaging you. You’ve decided that you have the moral high ground by not tipping people, which is absolutely bizarre to me, and nothing will move you out of this position. So I’m not going to waste my time further.

Have a good one.

Some of us learned with Destiny 1 and it saddens me they got so many more victims customers with Destiny 2

Meh AC3 was a complete game you didn’t enjoy (valid reason not to pre-order still!) so I’d say it’s less flagrant than destiny et al which nickel and dime you as they manufacture FOMO. Bungie’s list of sins is much longer lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If instances weren't supposed to be ever defederate, then we wouldn't have the tool. In the absence of real moderation/admin tools it's going to get used more frequently. And that's the admin owner's right!

I still can't believe IA took this risk, however. I agree it should've been fine, but they and we know it isn't. They basically begged for this to happen and I don't understand why when they clearly don't have their ducks in a row to pick this fight (unlike TPB which plays the game well).

I think you should only be able to go after sharing/pirating if you can definitively prove it’s causing greater harm to your product then it’s benefit.

The problem is that while most of us agree, we all also know that isn't how the world works. IA is a major name, they are obviously not operating under the radar. They picked a fight they weren't ready to take on and they should've known better, but instead they decided to jeopardize the entire project.

If you want to be The Pirate Bay, then you need to play it smart like The Pirate Bay. This was reckless and short sighted.

sounds like AC3 all over again. Can’t wait to play.

I’m all for acting your wage, but I don’t want to make victims of anyone who is interacting with my company simply because I was feeling spiteful. The company will be fine, the tons of people who just had their information leaked are the ones who are truly inconvenienced and may face financial repercussions later on when their information is distributed. Just something to consider

If I were a Democrat and I saw that 6–3 Supreme Court, I would be very wary of attempting anything involving interstate commerce. The Supreme Court clearly has no regard for precedent or consistency anymore, the last thing I want to do is call attention to one of the most potent weapons I have for checking the powers of state governments and the executive branch.

iFixit tears down a McDonald’s ice cream machine, demands DMCA exemption for it (arstechnica.com)

McDonald’s soft-serve ice cream machines are regularly broken, and it’s not just your perception. When repair vendor and advocate iFixit was filming a video about the topic, it checked tracking map McBroken and found that 34 percent of the machines in the state of New York were reported inoperable. As I write this, the...

That requires me to do it potentially under duress, with little to no time, etc. During a crisis it can't be assumed that the first thing I'll do is lockdown my phone. Anything that requires an anticipatory step is inherently risky.
