As giant a douchebag as Abbott is (and most if not all of the GOP), it saddens me that in 2023 there are still people who a) won't stop working and take a drink when they need it, fuck the boss if he doesn't like it, and worse managers who would try to disallow it in the first place. We shouldn't have to have a law. This shit is common sense.
I thought about it and it'll be helpful a thread going of folks who made a request, and when they got their data. To help give other folks an idea of when they might here back, if they put a request in now....
The Supreme Court is expected to issue its ruling on the Biden administration's student loan forgiveness plan this month. Anticipation for the ruling is high.
Yeah, but if you give things to the peons they start expecting to live a better life... and if they have better lives how can we look down on them and feel better about how superior we are?
Recommendations for beginners? I have a specific project I'd like to undertake with certain goals I'd like to achieve, but I've only done some very basic programming and very little electronic/electrical work. Figuring out how to get started is a little overwhelming.
My goal is to replace my infotainment system in my car with something much more modern. There are exactly zero aftermarket replacement options for my specific car and unfortunately the stock system is tied into other systems, such as the HVAC. The stock system already has a 7" touch screen, though I'm not certain it has the same aspect ratio as the one sold on raspberrypi.com.
My dream is to pull out the factory "radio" module and the touchscreen and replace them with a raspberry pi 4 (or maybe there's a better one for this?) and the touchscreen that goes with it. I figure I'll need a DAC HAT (the car has a center speaker... maybe I want a DSP? 5.1ch?), a CAN Bus HAT (PiCAN3? PiCAN2?), some I/O HAT that I can map the physical HVAC controls to (I'm fairly certain the current system not only displays HVAC status info, but actually transmits commands from the HVAC buttons, but I might be wrong)... I'd also like a backup camera, maybe even with the moving lines (CAN Bus link the steering wheel position data?), Andriod Auto, Navigation... and if all of that doesn't max out the I/O already maybe even accelerometer/gyro data-logging and analysis and dashcam/rearcam recording.
It's ambitious, especially for a beginner... and I don't expect to have it working in the next year. I'd love to know of some resources that I can use to learn how to accomplish all of these goals. Books? YouTube channels/courses? Forums?

Same. I've been justinh_tx for 20 years or more on just about every site/service that let's you have an underscore in your username. If I can't have an underscore I'm justinh512tx.
Back in high school (late 90s) while learning to play guitar I was massively into Metallica and Pantera. The Black Album was one of the first two CDs I bought with my own money (the other was Offspring - Smash). As I got older I got into a lot of other genres and I don't really consider myself a Metal fan anymore. But having said that, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All will always be special as will Cowboys From Hell and Far Beyond Driven. I tend to like the virtuoso lead guitars and riffs that swing. Pantera is what ZZ Top would be if ZZ Top were a metal band. I dig Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Sabbath, Zakk Wylde, Megadeth, Down, Damageplan... Is Rage Against The Machine metal?

One thing I hated in the later years of reddit was the lack of reddiquette. Not making simple comments that could just have been an upvote. Reading the board rules. Trying to just be educated about your posts in general. Not asking for simple explanations that can easily be found on a web search....
The one thing I miss most about the old, old days of Reddit is the idea that the downvote button isn't an "I disagree" button. It's supposed to be a "this post is off-topic/irrelevant" button, or maybe at most a "this post is factually incorrect" button.
Unfortunately, I don't see any sort of unenforceable code of conduct surviving the onslaught of the general internet public. It's a nice idea, but if it didn't work on Reddit, it isn't going to work here.

I originally went with the same name but have been using this one now since it's new and the idea of starting fresh appeals to me....
