The UK will give a major boost to Ukrainian cyber defenses as Ukraine mounts a counteroffensive, according to a British Government statement.
According to the statement, Britain is going to roll out a major two-year expansion to its cyber defense program in Ukraine, protecting the country’s critical national infrastructure from crippling Russian cyber attacks. The package will include £16 million ($20.5 million) in UK funding and the potential for a further £9 million ($11.5 million) contribution from international allies.
“The Prime Minister [Rishi Sunak], who will this week make the case for the private sector to join the counteroffensive against Russia by supporting Ukraine through investment, will say that it is vital the international community hardens Ukraine’s defences to enable it to protect and grow investment into the country,” the statement reads.
Additionally, the UK has increased military support for Ukraine this week by contributing £250 million ($320.5 million) to the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU), enabling the provision of a major air defense package to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks.
