monsoon,

Interest based ads that everyone who has connected to the same wifi as you will now see. And it's not just interest based ads. They will use this to calculate your whole personality and manipulate you and others based on that.

monsoon,

I'm glad to have moved to lemmy. It feels raw and real, vs reddits polished curated feel. As if I'm actually reading posts by people. And I like that is doesn't get me scrolling too much.

What is a good hobby for a depressed person?

So i still have depression and im constantly bored, i feel like a loser who cant do anything right. I want to let my creativeness out, make something i can share with the world or family, but im probably dreaming too big. I cant stand being depressed and bored, it stinks, everyone tells me to work out but i lack the motivation...

monsoon,

A really simple creative hobby could be drawing mandalas.
You can completely freehand it, or use a circle tool like a compass to make guides to make it more symmetrical. Search for "mandala shapes" if you want some ideas for basic shapes to use.

If you don't mind me asking what is so important about privacy?

What harm does public data have to you? Couldn’t one just ignore the ads? You can’t see anyone watching you, is public data good for public records? (I’m just curious). I know this sounds weird but is public data good for historical preservation and knowledge increasing the importance of the individual? And does public...

monsoon,

Every comment here is missing a crucial point. The data is used to identify what kind of person you are and then manipulate you based on that. It's not just to target specific ads to you. It is to control how you behave in any way that will profit them. An example of what has been done is to identify democrats that were unlikely to be convinced to switch to republican, so instead they targeted them with content that would get them to not vote at all.

Talk me out of using countertop induction cooktops (with outlets for both higher powered commercial and lower powered household devices) as my burners vs having a built-in cooktop.

Besides not being aesthetically pleasing, what’s the downside of strictly using countertop induction cooktops, both commercial and household varieties, as my burners? If I go for the individual cooktops, I could easily replace them individually if they break or if technology or features improve, plus I can put them away for...

monsoon,

I got two of the cheap single hob ones from ikea. I have been using them for a while and the function just fine. Having two seperate ones also means that I can just put either one away if it's not needed.

monsoon,

Lithium on android, I set it so I can scroll down the book rather than flip the pages. Then I get my books on lib gen for free.

monsoon,

Vegans are far more likely to have changed their consumption habits outside of veganism as well. It is not a "save the animals and fuck everyone else" stance, and it is odd that you try to make it seem like that.

We're all just trying to do our best. With animal products it's simple; if there's a dead animal on your plate then you can be sure an animal suffered for your meal.

monsoon,

The reason hiking shoes have ankle support is because most people already have glass ankles. If you let your ankles strengthen without them then rolling your ankles doesn't equal injury. I went on a long hike just last weekend and rolled my ankles pretty hard on two occations without any pain or injury.
