The problem is landlords who don't give a fuck about their tenants and are fixated on squeezing the most out of them. I currently own my house, but my previous landlords were very diligent with repairs and kept rent increases to inflation. They knew we were dependable tenants who paid rent on time and were going to leave the place in decent shape.
But yes, renting can absolutely have unscrupulous landlords. Large investors especially use rental pricing software to press tenants to their absolute limit. It becomes a form of price fixing.
This is good advice. You can make a much bigger splash in local politics. Vote. Get educated on local issues. Become an activist. Run for office. Get involved in local community groups. There's only so much your typical individual can do towards national or even state politics, but local involvement is much more impactful.
There's a saying, that the states are the laboratories of democracy. There's often this push to make big scale reforms at the national level, and in some cases that is the right thing. But Congress is perpetually gridlocked. Often it's better to build from the state, county, and local level to fine tune a reform and prove to the country that it is a good idea. Take ranked choice voting. Some states and localities are slowly adopting it without needing permission from Congress.
For Crimea, it makes a bit more sense. It was a popular vacation spot in the Soviet Era. Just... maybe a bit less right now given that it's an active war zone?
But there are a whole lot of people who have decided to excuse everything Hamas does and cast everything Israel does in the worst light possible. That's what I personally have a problem with. Hamas and its sponsors are despicable excuses for human beings who put slaughter Israeli civilians and put Palestinian civilians in harm's way. That needs to be fully acknowledged. At the same time, I see a lot of people in the US who are ignorant of the failure of leadership in Israel. They place all blame on Palestinians without realizing that Israel's leadership has played a role in sabotaging peace talks.
