I am considering moving to Germany and was told that regions in the south are more conservative, so much so that an acquaintance ex-pat said they would never want to live there. Looking online there are some sources to support this notion but nothing concrete. I am wanting to move mostly because I loved the country and the...
One City that doesn't get mentioned much here is Tübingen(~70k) in the south. Its pretty much as liberal as Berlin, probably the most accepting city under 500k population in Germany. It is ridiculously beautiful with a huge old town, and as someone who is queer and spends time there often, it feels very safe. The queer community is huge because there is tons of students. It has amazing City Planning / Cycling Infrastructure / Public Transport, and the surrounding nature is beautiful as well.
Started playing Shatterline with some friends. Its got PvP modes, but the main thing is a roguelike extraction shooter PvE mode that is played as a coop. Its awesome!
I've noticed in the explosion that we are getting duplicate communities in multiple instances. This is ultimately gonna hinder community growth as eventually communities like 'cats' will exist in hundreds of places all with their own micro groups, and some users will end up subscribing to duplicates in their list....
I think this is the ideal solution, but you should be able to share the groups you create with others, exactly like multireddits. That way, collections of these groups could be made available to others, for them to add to their feed.
But is it really a Problem exclusive to the fediverse? there is several large news communities on reddit as well, and you have to pick or see duplicates. Also, this is only an issue in heavily aggregation-focused communities, not in those where content is generated (memes, hobby communities) as those do not have the issue of duplicates so you can just sub to all the ones you are interested in, even if several of them have the same subject.
I've seen multiple requests for nsfw lemmy communities like reddit has. I live in Germany, and I think you are required to verify that the users that see porn content are above the age of 18. Does Lemmy has or plan to have a feature for that? Maybe this should be an issue on github?
The problem with this is that in most countries/most services, you cant legally have any accounts before you are a certain age like 13 or 16. Also, babies cant make accounts and people would just sell old ones.
Honestly, how much there is on modrinth vastly depends on the version. Modrinth has almost a better selection of mods for modern versions, cf has better legacy version mods.
Remember that time they sent an elderly person to jail for several years and ruined them financially for the rest of their life, all because that person had been a glorified Facebook group admin for a cracking group?
I know a lot of you want all decent people of good intent to leave Twitter and come to the Fediverse instead. (If you are not such a person, this message is not to your address.)
And I know a lot of you - in many cases, the exact same people - feel very strongly that Mastodon, if not the whole Fediverse, is not a place for commercial activity, and that businesses should not be welcome here. Not big brands, not not small businesses, not celebrities, not influencers, not any of it.
@osma Heck, there could even be companies that host business instances for those smaller businesses, where they can pay a fee to get their instance with their domain.

I've dabbled with Linux over the years, first with Ubuntu in the early 2010s, then Elementary OS when that dropped, and a few years ago I really enjoyed how customizable the gui was with Xubuntu. I was able to make it look just like WIndows 2000 which was really cool....
Its also pretty easy to get it setup to a semi-customized basic look and feel. Use one of the bigger themes, a popular Icon pack and a nice matching wallpaper as well as a little task bar customization and some widgets and youre set, and all this takes less than two hours.
