Recognizing that the act of asking for an unsolicited tip as a requisite part of buying a coffee is making both customers and himself uncomfortable, acknowledging that his take home pay is so abysmally low that he depends on tips to make a living, and then after all of that, blaming the customer as the primary problem for not being willing to tip in the current economy/environment, is like making a 95 yard run and then tripping over your own shoelaces at the endzone.
"They subsidize lower prices by paying employees less," he says. "If you aren't tipping, you are taking advantage of that labor."
"There's just something really, really demoralizing about someone seeing that screen, knowing that I'm not rich and kind of just not caring enough to kind of like want to help me make a living."
These are both quotes by the barista. He is literally making this argument. He's acknowledging that he's underpaid but he's quite squarely placing the onus on the customer to make up the deficit.
They're just normal Home Depot. They're the "select pine" if you're looking around, pretty decent wood for a little more money. About 12 bucks per slat.
I absolutely hope subs stay dark indefinitely following this response. Make it absolutely hurt. Make it a pain to build the site back to what it was on June 11th.
It's a lot more pleasing and familiar. When the blackout ends I'm going to spend the remaining time I've allotted myself (until 6/30) attempting to push kbin on subs I frequent. From there, I'll start working on federating as I please, but of all the lemmy/fediverse instances I've tried I find this the most familiar for sure and this will be "home base".
Have also done this a few times. However at this point for me it's out of principle. Don't want to be on Reddit so I'm just trying to avoid it as much as possible, but I'm already finding that kbin scratches the itch :)
