OC kbin-megamod: proposal and proof of concept for integrated collection of kbin scripts with toggle menu (github.com)

Recently I had been thinking about using localstorage to elaborate a settings menu that could be used to toggle various scripts that persist browser sessions and would make the process of script management less fiddly and prone to collisions for end-users....

shazbot, (edited )

I see, thank you for the criticism. I hadn't used that one before. Don't you think this unnecessarily buries the link? What if the user has disabled sidebars altogether or this settings menu changes upstream? Wouldn't it be better to decouple the link from this area? In any event, this is more about a framework for integrally managing mods; the physical location of widgets could always be changed.

Biggest hindrance to magazine usage? No easy drop down with all my subscribed magazines.

I'm fine with the top nav bar randomly inserting a bunch of magazines from around the instance. That helps with discovery of new magazines to join. However, the only option I have to view my currently subscribed magazines is the consolidated feed of them by clicking "Subscribed" or going to "All magazines". I just want a list of...

The Subreddit drop down
shazbot,

Use the three scripts listed here in conjunction with each other to clean this up

OC kbin-dropdown: replace profile page scrolling links with dropdown menu (github.com)

This userscript replaces the superlong scrolling marquee of links on profile pages with a selection dropdown so that you can easily navigate to submitted posts, comments, followers, etc. Works on any profile page including your own....

shazbot,

Are you running a custom theme? Is this a mobile device? This looks a bit different from the vanilla kbin I get when loading the defaults

shazbot,

Alright, try the updated version now

shazbot,

Not sure I follow you. I don't have auto media preview on. This only uses the full-size images, it stops loading the downscaled thumbnails from the server. You can click to trigger a modal or you can middle click to open in new tab.

shazbot,

Here's an updated version that should handle all scenarios

shazbot,

What browser and monkey version? Doesn't work in violentmonkey from what I saw so far

shazbot,

I think violentmonkey doesn't respond well to jquery in some situations, I'll have to pick through the documentation. I'd recommend tampermonkey as a close alternative

shazbot,

Hi, this should be fixed on all *monkey versions now if you wish to try again

shazbot,

Affects inline images in posts, not thumbnails in the thread index

shazbot,

See my script above, I have updated it to handle both cases (index thumbs and inline)

shazbot,

Are you on mobile? Try this user's profile page, which contains a mix of thumbnails and inline images, and check before/after

shazbot,

Feels like we are due for making a megamod combining these fixes

shazbot,

Alright, I've updated it with a toggle and opened a ticket for it here. You can navigate to the install script again and it will prompt you to 'Update Style" on the left sidebar.

If this is satisfactory, I will close the ticket, otherwise let me know what resolution display you are working with and how much dead space we are talking about here. If you want to submit other issues, the best place to do so would be through there, although you must register an account to submit tickets. I am happy to fix any bugs or issues you find or entertain other ideas.

If you feel strongly about it, I've added a sponsor button to the top of the repository. I maintain a collection of open-source projects (chiefly QoL utilities for Linux) there, so if you throw a few bucks at one, you'd be contributing to the ongoing maintenance of all of them. Thanks.

shazbot,

The mobile display is more compact and seems generally usable out of the box as a web app. On desktop it defaults to this mobile-style layout and it's not ideal.

shazbot,

Thanks, will continue adding to it on a rolling basis and it should auto-update every 24 hours if enabled to do so in the settings. If you see anything that should be changed, let me know.

shazbot,

I just tested it and I see what you are saying now. It seems that the radio buttons don't update live when you are on the install phase, but just let you set which options you want on a priori. Once the script is actually installed, you can manipulate those options on the fly and see the changes propagate locally. I'll update the docs accordingly to make this clearer.

I created a handful of easy bugs on the repo that would be good focus areas if you want to make a PR.
