I would assume because most people don't have a chip with a Pluton module in it. It looks like it's only in some mobile Ryzen 6000 chips right now. If it does shit like this no one will want one, I would rather not have Microsoft firmware baked right into my CPU
Yeah, they probably grabbed any highly popular "subreddit" names just for some weird power grab. The good thing is when federation is working again someone who actually wants to make a good magazine for one of those can make it on another instance and any other kbin instance can subscribe to it.
Overnight, definitely not. But I see a lot of potential in Kbin specifically. I think if the user sign up process is simplified (maybe just auto balance what instance you are signed up to unless you want to register to a specific instance, but that would probably require logins to be federated) then maybe make magazines more unified between instances (I'm not sure how to do this without over complicating the mod process, maybe it's just solved by searches excluding the @[instance] after the magazine name in the search and sort it by population) and that would be a huge start to usability for general users. Right now the people here probably mostly realize were just beta testing a new social media type that hopefully fleshes out into a nicer experience. I love the idea of decentralizing social media so that the control is put into the hands of the users of the platforms but it has to be in a way where users who don't care don't even realize it's happening otherwise we'll all just pile into one instance forever.
Out of curiosity, how do magazines work between instances? If there is a magazine on one instance is it shared as a "tag" between all of them so all posts under that magazine would be handled by those moderators etc or would each instance have it's own instance of that magazine and moderators would have to have permissions between all 3? I think I understand the basics of how it all works but I guess I am not sure how magazines are handled with the ActivityPub
They do have separate accounts, but can share content/comments with one another. They're similar in terms of features though so you'd probably only need an account for the one you like more
Oh shit really? I loved that app, I'll reinstall incase they update it. I have to say though, KBin works way better on the mobile site than Reddit ever did
I'm liking it a lot so far, it has the feel of old Reddit but with a more modern UI. A little bit of a learning curve at first but that's just because I'm so used to Reddit
