D&D Movie (lemmy.world)
Anyone seen it? Is it awful?
What 5e variant/house rules do you play with that work?
I’ll be DMing some more 5e soon and I want to take the opportunity to try some different ways of playing (I’ll post my own suggestions as comments so they can start their own discussion threads). What alternate rules have you tried that you thought worked well? They can be larger changes to the game or little QoL tweaks...
Help with a player that likes the idea of being a caster, but not the mechanics
I’ve been a DM for about 3 years, and have predominantly run one-shots and short campaigns in DnD5e and PF2e. I have a player who persistently builds primary caster based characters, but then won’t do anything in combat but “I stab it with my dagger.” They rarely use cantrips, and basically won’t cast a leveled spell...
"Choose Your Weapon" - [Swords Comic] (swordscomic.com)
swordscomic.com/comic/DCCXXXIX/
I gave away my DnD books to strangers.
Earlier today I was browsing through shelves at a toy store to look for a last gift for one of my daughters. That’s when I hear an excited voice ask one of the store employees ‘do you have dungeons and dragons?’. I listen in and learn that they do not have any DnD material at all and also can’t order it. I walk a bit...
OC What DnD (or other TTRPG) podcasts are you guys listening to?
I've tried out NADDPOD, TAZ and am currently listening to one in the Stars Without Number universe called Astronomica which is pretty funny....
What do we think of the new Monk?
So Monk is the one class we didn't get a prior UA for, which means all the changes are totally new. I'm still wrapping my head around it. Martial Arts die increase: good. Martial Arts die not affecting weapons: bad. Step of the Wind buff: good. Stunning Strike nerf: bad but reasonable?...
Do you hate having to pick between ability score increases and feats?
My paladin is now level 4 and has 19 strength and 15 charisma. I know it is probably better to take the ability score increase and get another +1 on the majority of rolls I’ll be making but that’s just so boring!...
DM question - level reset?
Hey everyone! Just trying to figure out if what I’m thinking is a good idea or the worst idea ever. My group is only two sessions in. They started at level 5. I have them going into a supposed-to-die battle wherein they wake in hell and have to figure out how to get out (yadda yadda this is where the real story starts). I was...
Do y'all pretend not to notice when the DM fudges something to keep your character alive?
Sometimes I can tell when my current DM fudges a roll to miss an attack or reduce damage. He has a tell in the specific way he pauses and breathes before announcing the roll, then tries to hurry to the next turn, which only seems to happen when someone is in a life-or-death scenario, but “luckily” survives....
[Announcement] Introducing Official /c/dnd Network Communities! (lemmy.world)

Help needed: how do YOU do things?

Dungeons & Dragons co-op multiplayer game on the way from Payday devs (www.rockpapershotgun.com)
It’ll be out in 2026, and Starbreeze are being upfront with the fact it’ll be a games-as-a-service-type game.
DMs, what are your favorite parts of running this game? Players, what are yours?
I’ve started running Curse of Strahd and have been having a ton of fun making wacky homebrew things for my party and tweaking the module. Unbeknownst to the players so far, I have made them all a secret Dark Power trying to use them to usurp Strahd and Vampyr, and they’re just waiting to offer their dark gift....

Do people run lower roleplay focused D&D?
Whenever I hear about D&D more often than not it seems like people go to great lengths to stay in character and roleplay...
How was your last game?
Mine was a battle against a rival gang (we are working with them for backstory reasons), they had a manticore and we are level 3 so it was intense. Most of us finished with 2 or so hp! But looking forward to finally be level 4 after a year.
I'm bad at the role playing part, suggest a character or trait to separate the P from the C
Title. Friend group and I play regularly but most of us are bad at the role playing part of it to the point where it’s hard to tell when the player or the character are speaking in some scenes. Conversations are stiff. We can’t use too heavily modified voices because we’re playing remotely. My character is about to die...
Help me flesh out my homebrew pirate world by asking me questions about it
First off: Sawbones, Moonie, Reeva or Mygg, if you’re reading this, DON’T!...

In a homebrew world how much lore is minimum to have as a player before you feel you can play in it?
Edit sorry I was way to vague and bad explained question. But great explanation everyone....
How do you feel about the rules regarding bonus action spells, and why?
I’m feeling a bit torn myself. I understand the thinking behind the vanilla rules; it helps balance out some of the spellcasters’ power, especially at higher levels. But my understanding of balance in 5e is that it’s to balance the players against each other, to avoid having 1 or 2 players be so clearly better at so much...
