[Announcement] Introducing Official /c/dnd Network Communities!

Hey all!

We are happy to announce the grand opening of our first Official /c/dnd Networked Communities!

Some of you may have already noticed the links in the sidebar as they have been soft launched for a few days to set up their rules and welcome posts.

DnD - Art

  • A community for Dungeons and Dragons Art posts, both OC and linked content of other artists both official and unofficial.

DM Academy

  • A community for discussion, questions, tools, or advice regarding being a Dungeon Master (or Game Master) for Dungeons and Dragons or RPG’s in general

DnD - Homebrew

created by @owenfromcanada and officially brought into our network

  • A community to share and workshop your DnD homebrew. Feats, classes, subclasses, races, items, pretty much everything is welcome.

DnD - Memes

  • A community for Dungeons and Dragons Memes and Comics

DnD - AI

  • A community for the discussion of the use of Artificial Intelligence when playing Dungeons and Dragons.

DnD - Looking for Group

  • A community for those looking for a group to play DnD with.

The reason for networking these communities together is that we can keep them in the same general style, have the same rules, and coordinated moderation across each community.

Please read the sidebar of each individual community! As always we will keep allowing regular posting here at DnD and will be guiding users in the comments to where their post may be a better fit.

We will be adding additional communities as needed and if any users have ideas for communities let us know.

All the links for the network community are giving 404 error

Brunbrun6766,

its all working on my end, tested in an incognito tab as well as other browsers too.

1chemistdown,

I’m kbin.social and not lemmy. I still get a 404 error

Brunbrun6766,
@Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world avatar

ah, I don’t have a solution for you unfortunately. I’ve never used Kbin and that sounds like a Kbin issue to solve not mine

The links use the Lemmy format /c/dnd... because Lemmy uses "communities." Kbin has "magazines" and therefore uses /m/anything. Just replace the 'c' with an 'm' and the links will take you to the right places.

Thank you

There's also a lemmy instance TTRPG.network, as well as an instance dedicated to Pathfinder and Starfinder pathfinder.social

Seems odd to not have these on the TTRPG.network. A single use instance will be more convenient instead of coming to lemmy.world

FaceDeer,

I'm wary of putting all eggs under just one set of admins, on one server.

Star Trek did it. It's great to have a single dedicated spot. It's better to unify as we start up then split.

FaceDeer,
FaceDeer avatar

I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm saying it shouldn't be done.

We just saw lemmy.world collapse in ruin from a hack, for example. It came back quickly, but if it hadn't and all of the TTRPG communities had been there it would have been quite a mess to recover from.

I think it's ok to have themed instances. People are still free to create communities on other ones, even if they're similar topics. No one is saying ALL ttrpg has to be ONLY one roof. I help admin an instance that's devoted only to sci-fi and fantasy communities (any media) but only those themes. Some of the communities we have also exist elsewhere and that's the great thing about the fediverse.

No one is saying ALL ttrpg has to be ONLY one roof.

That was what I interpreted dumbles' objection to be, he didn't like that these communities weren't on TTRPG.network.

To be clear, I'm not opposed to "themed" instances. I just don't think it's bad to have communities scattered around on other instances as well as that.

Brunbrun6766,
@Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world avatar

people are free to go to these places and make their own communities. It wont be me as I am here on .world and as stated above !dnd has been on .world before ttrpg network existed

fax_of_the_shadow,
fax_of_the_shadow avatar

Ah yeah, that makes sense.

plethora,

I believe !dnd on Lemmy.world existed prior to ttrpg.network. Sometimes you just make stuff where the people already are.

for some reason I can't get anything to come up when I click your pathfinder link. And typing the web address in gets me a 404 error.

I think they are down. I could subscribe via Kbin magazine search but not go through the website

fax_of_the_shadow,
fax_of_the_shadow avatar

that's what I ended up doing, searching via kbin magazine search. Weird. I'd like to see the entre instance in case there are other communities not shown here.

dumples,
dumples avatar

From Kbin you can subscribe to entire instances. So you should be able to do that.

fax_of_the_shadow,
fax_of_the_shadow avatar

Yeah, not sure I want ALL of them for subscriptions, I just wanted to see what else they had in case I did want to subscribe. I'm sure it will be back up eventually and I can go check.

Brunbrun6766,
@Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world avatar

Thank you, but that is not what this post is for. These are our communities here as a part of this network and on .world

Xathonn,
Xathonn avatar

Yeah it's weird the made other stuff not on that. Just gonna stick to the official ones on ttrpg.network

ReadyUser31,

“Official”?

07Chess,

Thank you for putting this all together into one spot. I just followed almost everything on the sidebar. A suggestion, though, you may get more traction if you make links that are usable for people using other lemmy instances and kbin. I had to manually search for everything to go subscribe to it.

Brunbrun6766,
@Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world avatar

The links here in the post should be fixed let me know if they arent

Edit: and the sidebar should be fixed as well

owlfox,

@Brunbrun6766 The links are still broken for me, only DM academy takes me to the .world community. Sadly, from Kbin I'll just have to search for all these, as the links won't let me subscribe right away.

07Chess,

Dang that was fast. Thank you! All of the ones in the post work except DM Academy. The same is true for the sidebar.

All the links under the next header on the sidebar don’t link well either.

Brunbrun6766,
@Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah i only did our official ones for right now. Ill fix the others later. DM academy should work now

Brunbrun6766,
@Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world avatar

True, I forget about that on .world sometimes

Knitwear,

Hi, apologies but the top paragraph of links aren’t working for me but the rest are, any ideas why?

FaceDeer,
FaceDeer avatar

Annoying to see that the same ghettoization of AI art is going on here as was on Reddit - AI art is forbidden from the "art" community, and lumped in over with the "AI" community that also handles every other kind of AI stuff. At this point it should be pretty clear that whether something is "AI" or not is not as relevant a division as what kind of AI thing it is.

sbv,

“official” made me think Hasbro was coming to Lemmy, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
