In just 3 days more than 500.000 new users!! Lemmy for power, we will be legion, expect us!
I think that federated gitlab instances could be a good next step forward for becoming independent from big companies....
I started moving from Reddit to Lemmy a few days ago, and since then I've been forcing myself to spend time here and getting myself used to it. I quickly checked the list of popular instances and decided to join lemmy.world and not beehaw because I didn't like their decision of defederating other big lemmy instances....
Citizens of Lemmy and Fediverse, Reddit refugee here. Many outrages have befallen, but sensing the impending demise of the website brought me here....
Does it mean that each communities like this fediverse for example is different from another community with the same name in a different instance?
Every Instances(Servers) should have distinct UI appearances not only logos but also background, colors, typefaces, layouts and so much more, so that they'll remind me easily that I'll be at a different instance. It might rouse me more to lurk like travelling to any other dimensions. Js
Sounds like a great opportunity to work together and with your powers combined create the first top tier user driven app....
Good news: lemmy.world has overtaken lemmy.ml and now holds the top spot as the #1 non-bot lemmy instance....

Does a 9gag alternative exist that is in the fediverse (with ActivityPub)?
How are lemmy instances being funded, what kind of entity owns them, and if incorporated where? E.g. private individual, LLC, C Corp, non profit, S Corp, Benefit Corp, etc...
So, it started out like this....
Prior to that, there is a nice correlation between activity and user growth. More users - more activity in posts and comments. That's no longer the case over the last couple of days. 🤔

With the fediverse growing seeming to grow really fast these days, and covering the twitter & reddit spaces, I've been wondering what other social media can be covered by the fediverse....
I saw someone post about FediSearch, its very helpful but a little inconvenient to have to switch search engines just for lemmy, so I implemented their search query directly into my browser with Chrome's search shortcuts. Figured I'd write up a guide since this seems to be one thing a lot of y'all are missing from reddit, hope...
Firstly, there is the unstoppable flood of new posts that are added while browsing "All". Although this doesn't happen when using the Jerbea app, it sometimes renders "All" unusable in the browser....
I don’t have much time for moderation; who would like to moderate this community? I think 2 mods would be enough for now, but they can also add more when needed.
I am curious what % of user can the current lemmy instances take in from reddit...
