Creds and copyright Alex Kent over at Twitter. He also posted a picture of Fedorova's arrest, with her press credentials at full display.

The context is, of course, the ongoing anti genocide protests.

metaStatic,

you need to sign in to even look at shXitter now? Thank fuck, it's finally dead.

On desktop Firefox, using the Imagus add-on, I can still see the image by hovering over the link.

childOfMagenta,

Thanks

You're better off, the comment section is full of bootlickers anyway.

Here's the tweet:

#NYPD knocking down and arresting credentialed journalist Olga Fedorova in New York, NY on May 8, 2024.

There are two attached images. The second photo should be accessible through the link even without signing in, but I attach it here for good measure.

Entertainmeonly,

A link is great but xitter doesn’t let anyone without an account even look at content from their page anymore. Is there an alternate place to see these?

@aasatru@kbin.earth avatar

It's just two images, I've posted the second one here. :)

Jesus. Everything needs a fucking account anymore.

LucidNightmare,

I thought the federation was against this type of stuff! :(

This has nothing to do with that. Signing in with an account other than OP’s wouldn’t have done anything.

Oh bother - I tried the direct link to the post, apparently that's for my eyes only. Fixed it now, thanks for pointing it out! :)

gravitas_deficiency,

For those unaware, NYPD SRG is notorious for excessive force and civil rights violations.

In case, you know, it wasn’t blatantly obvious.

MeanEYE,
@MeanEYE@lemmy.world avatar

Well just looking at the number of cuffs he went out with gives a hint on his intentions that night.

Saledovil,

Why is the cop so chubby? That vest he’s wearing looks like its about to tear open any minute.

City of New York, independent press.

Not exactly subtle either.

3volver,

The NYPD is one of the biggest gangs in the US. They get paid the best, by those they don’t protect of course.

Snapz,

Which part of this image is the “freedom”?

Conservative politicians are a disease, these are the scars of that illness defacing the body ferociously and actively since Nixon.

Woozythebear,

I like how all this happens under Democrat rule with the democrat president supporting it and you’re like “it’s all the conservatives fault”

CybertoothTiger,

If I borrowed your car and put sugar in the gas tank before giving it back, is it my fault or yours when the car shits itself to death while you’re driving it?

Woozythebear,

Mine if I watched you do it and did nothing to stop it while giving you money on the side to do it.

Colonel_Panic_,

Are you dense? It’s the conservatives putting all these things in place to begin with, then blocking all attempts to change it, and then blaming everyone else, and convincing their base to parrot it for them, exactly like you are doing.

Stop listening to news and their propaganda for a few minutes and go look up their voting history. Don’t listen to their lies, look at their actions.

And for the Democrats, they are not nearly as bad because they aren’t 100% fascist like the GOP, but they sure as hell aren’t doing enough to stop it all, because SURPRISE! They are also right wing.

If anyone wants some actual better things in this country it’s long past time kicking all the right-wing and extreme-right-wing corrupt assholes out and get some ACTUAL progressive people in power so the average person can have some nice things for a change.

I'm not entirely sure how hashtags render in Lemmy, but I added that one because I think fundamentally it's what the picture is about: Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, press freedom, freedom from arbitrary violence.

Of course it's a case of freedom being infringed upon, but I nevertheless think it's a central theme.

    w2tpmf,

LOL. Yes. Conservatives are responsible for corruption in New York… A completely blue state.

    I_Fart_Glitter,

    ny1.com/…/police-unions-say-they-have-no-regrets-…

NEW YORK - The city’s major police unions forcefully endorsed Donald Trump’s failed bid for re-election.

"In the New York City PBA, Mr. President you earn the endorsement and you’ve earned this endorsement,” said Patrick Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association.

"I’m proud to give it,” he said in August.

But, Joe Biden won decisively in the city, putting the police unions and the officers they represent on the opposite side of the political fence from the majority of New Yorkers they serve.

    huffpost.com/…/trump-jan-6-police-unions_n_65d67a…

Trump Picks Up Police Support Even As He Glorifies Those Who Assaulted Police On Jan. 6

Michael Fanone, a former metro police officer who on Jan. 6 was attacked with a stun gun by a Trump follower until he suffered a heart attack, said the reason is as simple as it is disturbing: “Lots of officers are ideologically aligned with the people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6,” he said. “I get more threatening phone calls from people who identify as police officers than anyone else. We’ve been dismissed and vilified by even our police union.”

For some reason googling her name gives results for like 8 different people in various countries and time periods.

    DragonTypeWyvern,

Like it’s a name or something.

    blanketswithsmallpox,

I mean yeah! What are the chances of someone having the same name as you? Like, one in a million, tops.

    jnk,

That would mean there’s around 8000 people with your exact same name. That’s a lot of people

    blanketswithsmallpox,

And I friended every one of them on Facebook until I deleted it half a decade ago.
