It is really quite pathetic that both our main parties have so little vision, so little ambition, that they can only view working 'til we drop (dead, preferably) as a valid societal model & every "solution" they see is around preparing young people for this ("more resilient") or browbeating ill and disabled people until they have a damascene revelation about their difficulties and give up on sorting out their health or trying to have any quality of life

Where's my sci-fi future of leisure?

The Tories meanwhile are conflating stress and depression and in-work and out-of-work support as they see fit to sow confusion and try to push ridiculously offensive ideas around cutting support.

Stress is short-term problem for which a period away from work can help (even if work itself is not the straw that breaks the camel's back). You should get SSP (and Contractual Sick Pay?) to help with this.

Depression is a long term problem for which you can learn to deal with and may get PIP for

There is also anxiety and social anxiety, I am sure the idea that work can help, but the wrong employer or a toxic environment can make matters far worse.
