The first picture is the display of a railroad signalman's desk at the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer NC, circa 1946. (My grandfather was a railroad signalman after returning from World War II).

The second picture is my radio station (in a cluttered state), 80 years on.

What's striking to me is that, though my station has more advanced tech, both stations have the same elements- including the Morse straight key.

There's apparently an unconscious tradition in the family!

@ai6yr The park is a tract of forest ownwd by NC State University used for education and research. There are no amenities there and it is not open to the public.

Pota.app had a link on the park's page that was clearly AI-generated saying the park was popular for fishing, hiking, and picnicking. None of that is true.

I sent an email to the organizers to let them know, and they pulled the park fron the list (since it's not publicly owned and not open to the public).

Hi folks, I know folks mean well when they post information on news events, but PLEASE vet your sources before reposting dramatic articles/etc. you see. If you're not familiar with the publication, DON'T POST IT. Or check on the source...

For example, I recently saw an article posted from the Daily Caller, which is essentially a channel for white supremacist propaganda, interspersed with other normal news.

Curio Cabinet finally filled, and more tubs will go downstairs for storage. Okay, let's get this one out of the way as I see it going around:

The auroras being seen so far south tonight has absolutely nothing to do with . It is caused by multiple coronal mass ejections on the sun in the past few days, which occurred because we are at the peak of the 11-year solar cycle. It has nothing whatsoever to do with climate.

As always, my policy is: post misinformation, you get blocked.

For me, the wife and I are going to a special Winston Salem Dash baseball game tonight. It's our first one. They are the A team for the Chicago White Sox. Hoping to have a great time tonight.

Not much else planned outside of work stuff for a bit today and the weekend we don't have anything planned as of yet.
